What is good about Mac Book Pro ?

Fangerz

I am thinking of getting a new laptop this summer. But ihave twofriends who has an Acer and an Hp pavillion. They seem to enjoy their laptops. I was thinking to buy the new Hp Pavillion because it seems cool with the fingerprint scanner, built in camera etc. But i was fascinated about the MacBook Pro because they seem easier touse. Can anyone help choose?

These are some of my questions:

a) can MS word or any word processorworkon mac?ormac has its own?
b) can ragnarok, call of duty, or any rpg game work on mac?
c) can mac's battery life last long?
d) are mac's faster than windows?
e) are there driver for the mac?forexample you just got a new printer and you have to install the drive?
f) are mac's good for gaming? i know there not much games for mac but are there gameswich can run smoothly in mac
e) does mac have a goodsound system?

Answer
here's your answer. you can get a fingerprint scanner for the Mac. it's made by Sony. MacBook Pro's have built in camera's, really tiny ones. they DEFINITELY are easier to use.
A)MS Word has a special version just for Mac that you can get from www.Mactopia.com (official MS site)
B)A LOT of games are available for the Mac because they have superior frame rates and graphics. More are surely on their way.
C)A Pro's battery charged fully will give you about three hours of life between charges more or less.
D)they now average at about the same speed since they use the same processors, but Mac's have a different OS which is easier for the processor to run. So in some cases, Macs come out on top in speed.
E)Mac has almost every driver you'll ever need automatically built into the system. Just plug your printer in and it should work. If not, download the Mac driver from the printer's site.
F)I answered this.
E)MacBook's Pro soundsystem is excellent. You can also download a free program called OSS 3D which amplifies this incredible sound system even more. Furthermore, you can hook up external speakers to your Mac. check out www.MacHowDoI.com for more info!

Do I need Pentium 4 laptop if all I do is email, browse the Internet and type manuscripts or is a 3 enough?

bigkad2002

Answer
you need a Centrino-based laptop.

this comes with built-in wi-fi and will allow you to retrieve email and surf internet on the move. also, it has power saving so the battery lasts longer (if you do less CPU-intensive stuff, the processor clock-speed drops and that saves power)

the internet is not a nice place. it's not your own bedroom. you need the latest and greatest protectware and you can't run those on a P3 well. if you run MS XP, together with the other stuff like antivirus, personal firewall, pop up blockers, spyware scanner, that's a lot of processing that a P3 won't do as well these days.

if you type manuscripts on notepad or wordpad, then maybe the P3 will still suffice. otherwise, please go Centrino. P4 is already outdated.

You might also want to consider Centrino dual core and have a powerful 3D graphics processor that will allow you to play games and watch DVD on your laptop.

NEED HELP on a Computer for Web Developer/Designer.?

Dr.True

I want a good computer that I can edit videos, music, images and other media. It does not have tobe the latest, or fastest as price is concern. I do have my eye on the IMAC 20inch, is this a good buy for what I want to do?

Answer
That is a good choice. If you already have a good monitor, you can get a Mac Mini. I have one, as well as an old blue&white G3 (which I keep around because I can hook up my scanner and THREE monitors at once!)

The new multi-core Intel machines are very, very fast. My Mini, a 1.66GHz Core Duo, works nine times faster than the old machine while performing raytraced 3D.

Mac OS X is also a system which is brilliant for coding back-end server code. If you interested in Ruby on Rails, I recommend Locomotive: a portable development environment for Rails. It makes things very easy indeed.

how much RAM is a good amount?

Antares

And what exactly is RAM? I'm looking to buy a laptop, and need one that is heavy duty, with a lot of memory and toughness. Portability isn't that big an issue (but it does need to be portable so it can't be a desktop). I was wondering about the RAM, and how much I would need.

Answer
RAM is random access memory, every time you open up a program it is using up RAM, if you have Windows Vista or Windows XP you can press Control, Alt, and Delete at the same time to see how much RAM your computer is taking up. RAM is important if you want to be able to open lots of programs without slowing down and be able to do multiple things at once like playing a game while you have a a virus scanner and a word document open would take up a lot of RAM. I recommend atleast 2 GB for Windows Vista as it takes p a bunch of RAM, if you're gonna play modern games and new games then you'll definitely need 2 GB RAM plus. The more RAM the more programs can be opened without lag and you can go from 1 program to another quickly, I used to have a computer with only 256 mb of RAM, whenever I exited a game it took forever to go back to the desktop or open another program. RAM is especially important for programs like Photo Editing Programs, Professional Business kind of programs and movie editing etc. because they need a lot of RAM to work with.

I also recommend a good graphics card if you want to play 3D games and/or movie edit, if your just a typical computer user and don't play games or have those big programs then 2 GB of RAM will be really nice already and you won't really need a good graphics card.

Please read!! Will eating chocolates help - 18 Week ultrasound?

Hope

I'm going for an ultrasound on Thursday - I will be 18 weeks exactly on the date. We really want to know the gender of our baby and are so excited!! Both my pregnant friends couldn't see the gender on the particular sonar because the babies werent lying right. Now, I've heard that I must have a bar of chocolate or coffee before I go to the doctor to make the baby more active. Has anyone had success with this? Will it be dangerous to the baby with all the caffeine? Any other suggestions will be much appreciated!!

Thank you in advance for all your answers!! Very much appreciated! Were just so excited. This is our first!

Answer
PLease please please... DO NOT have the chocolate...

The chocolate (or candy or simply anything sweet) will make the baby moving wildly and to be very active.
But - here it is - that will not, absolutely not make the gender revelation easier, because, the quick jerky movement and high activity will not allow the sonographer to focus on given area.
Plus... it will make the whole diagnostic test extremely difficult and he/she might miss some subtle details simply because the baby will not lie still for even a few seconds. He/she could miss very small spinal defect.. or some anomaly in the heart, which is difficult to see anyway and increased baby activity makes it nearly impossible.

Now, here is my advise - please, I BEG YOU, do not eat the chocolate for your 18 week scan. That is difficult diagnostic procedure and you want to know that your baby is healthy at the first place, don't you? If the tech can see the gender - fine, good for you (just remember, there are many places, where it is forbidden by law to reveal gender before 24 weeks of pregnancy - example of that is Vancouver, BC in canada, but there is a lot of such places - so you MIGHT be out of luck at your 18 wk scan anyway)... but if that is not against the law where you live, just go and wait, you might get lucky,.

If that was not visible, simply find a 3D ultrasound clinic in your neighborhood, schedule appointment there at your 30wks and then eat your chocolate. Because they there do not do diagnostic procedure.. they do not need to see kidneys and heart chambers. They will use special software to render the surface of your baby face and hands and feet and gender... and you will see baby waving hands and kicking and smiling etc.. and for that you do not want baby sleeping, but awake moving around...

I am a sonographer myself with over 15 years of experience, please, do not make our life miserable by eating chocolate before 18 wk scan. Plus, it did happen, and not only once, that we could not finish the scan since the baby was simply "flying around" and she had to come again a week later. It is a trouble for everyone.

Thanks for listening to me and good luck with your pregnancy and your baby.

Johnny

how do you get the picture of the object you want to print.lets say i want to print plastic parts for motorcycles how do i get the image of that model of the bike or the picture of it

you would have to take photos of object, scan views of object, compile into 3D rendering, then process that image through 3D printer,

so for a motor cycles handle grip,
you take photos of; top , ends, sides , bottom

Why all the hoopla over 3d printer guns?

Obama fail

What are the odds that normal folks have 2 - 50k to shell out for the machines that do this stuff. Just more hysteria from the media.

Latest example at nypost.com

Answer
Oh, you mean the thought that for say $5,000-$10,000 a group of terrorists like the Arian Brotherhood could create an arsenal of untraceable guns that could pass right through airport scanners, is all right with you? Well, it is NOT alright with 90% of Americans.

I have worked with 3D printers and the current generation IS capable of creating weapons that are untraceable and undetectable by airport scanners. And once you understand the process and practice creating the raw materials to print with you can literally create ceramic guns and cartridges and bullets that can't be detected by airport scanners. So what if one out of ten crack in the kiln if you are creating 1,000 that still leaves 900 working firearms.

what are some reverse engineering techniques?

Kevin7

Answer
Reverse engineering of machines
As computer-aided design (CAD) has become more popular, reverse engineering has become a viable method to create a 3D virtual model of an existing physical part for use in 3D CAD, CAM, CAE or other software. The reverse-engineering process involves measuring an object and then reconstructing it as a 3D model. The physical object can be measured using 3D scanning technologies like CMMs, laser scanners, structured light digitizers or computed tomography. The measured data alone, usually represented as a point cloud, lacks topological information and is therefore often processed and modeled into a more usable format such as a triangular-faced mesh, a set of NURBS surfaces or a CAD model.
Reverse engineering is also used by businesses to bring existing physical geometry into digital product development environments, to make a digital 3D record of their own products or to assess competitors' products. It is used to analyse, for instance, how a product works, what it does, and what components it consists of, estimate costs, and identify potential patent infringement, etc. Value engineering is a related activity also used by businesses. It involves de-constructing and analysing products, but the objective is to find opportunities for cost cutting.

Reverse engineering of software
The three main groups of software reverse engineering are
1. Analysis through observation of information exchange, most prevalent in protocol reverse engineering, which involves using bus analyzers and packet sniffers, for example, for accessing a computer bus or computer network connection and revealing the traffic data thereon. Bus or network behaviour can then be analyzed to produce a stand-alone implementation that mimics that behaviour. This is especially useful for reverse engineering device drivers. Sometimes, reverse engineering on embedded systems is greatly assisted by tools deliberately introduced by the manufacturer, such as JTAG ports or other debugging means. In Microsoft Windows, low-level debuggers such as SoftICE are popular.
2. Disassembly using a disassembler, meaning the raw machine language of the program is read and understood in its own terms, only with the aid of machine-language mnemonics. This works on any computer program but can take quite some time, especially for someone not used to machine code. The Interactive Disassembler is a particularly popular tool.
3. Decompilation using a decompiler, a process that tries, with varying results, to recreate the source code in some high-level language for a program only available in machine code or bytecode.

Reverse engineering of integrated circuits/smart cards
Reverse engineering is an invasive and destructive form of analyzing a smart card. The attacker grinds away layer by layer of the smart card and takes pictures with an electron microscope. With this technique, it is possible to reveal the complete hardware and software part of the smart card. The major problem for the attacker is to bring everything into the right order to find out how everything works. Engineers try to hide keys and operations by mixing up memory positions, for example, busscrambling. In some cases, it is even possible to attach a probe to measure voltages while the smart card is still operational. Engineers employ sensors to detect and prevent this attack. This attack is not very common because it requires a large investment in effort and special equipment that is generally only available to large chip manufacturers. Furthermore, the payoff from this attack is low since other security techniques are often employed such as shadow accounts.

how do i make a legitimate manga or comic?

Captain Fu

i understand there is software or something, but overall, i have no idea how to make manga. i am buying an how to draw manga and how to draw comic book soon, but im just curious, scan my images online, or use some high end 3d model software? please also list the cost of such software and or scanner if there is such things

Answer
Look up some guides on how to create a webcomic. They have assorted tips ranging from drawing to technologies and presentation.

The most basic challenges are to develop drawing skills and have many ideas for the comic. If you're a great artist but only one short story then you might have nowhere to take your characters. If you have many stories but can't present them then you have to seek a market for low-quality work.

For example, "Girl Genius" has good visual presentation and many stories within its great story arc. On the other hand, "Hidamari Sketch" is visually simple but covers many simple everyday stories, much as "Peanuts" did.

How can I make anime?

Sarah

So I have some good ideas for a few animes! While telling my friends (who are also anime freaks) they said they thought i was describing other animes i had seen because my ideas sounded so good. They were really excited and wanted to know more about the characters i made up. So i thought i could team up with a few people and make something like an anime short series or something, since it would be our first one. The only problem is that i don't know how to animate it. I can draw really well but obviously that's not enough for an "anime". So how/what programs can i use to animate my ideas?

Answer
My advice is to create a manga first (like bridget said watch Bakuman to get some tips), you need to storyboard the scenes for the anime first, and that's just like making a manga. You can copyright your manga story too, so nobody can steal it.

You need a suite of programs. This is what I'm gleaning from searching around

Manga/Anime artist survey:

- Top 2 paint programs: Adobe Photoshop, PaintTool SAI
- 90% use Windows, 10% Mac
- Almost all use a Wacom Intuos or other Wacom graphics tablet to draw
- or draw on paper and use a scanner, but a tablet will make your life easier.

Adobe Flash is a pretty powerful animation program, and a good one to learn, with the advantage that Flash can be linked straight on a website, or make your own online games. Many modern shows like my little pony are made with Flash

Here's a list of software with feature descriptions
http://www.squidoo.com/2danimationsoftware

Toon Boom is a popular animation suite used by The Simpsons, Spongebob, and others:
http://beta.toonboom.com/
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toon_Boom_Opus

FrameToon is made by a Japanese company, and they make OpenCanvas:
http://www.portalgraphics.net/oc/

Toonz is actually used by Studio Ghibli on Spirited Away:
http://www.toonz.com/

Tvpaint is a full fledged animation suite, and has a trial version
http://www.tvpaint.com/v2/content/article/home/

For 3D, you can use Blender (which is free open source), Maya, and 3D Studio Max.

Cheap rotoscoping software?

I was wondering where i can find some cheap rotoscoping software. Please no torrents, file sharing, illegal stuffs etc. I was hoping for something under... 200 bucks? If u say gimp, please tell me how. :D

Answer

Silhouette Roto is a matte power house since its designed only for the matte creation process and uses spline-based tools to cut mattes. Essentially, it's a standalone "rotospline" tool that can work on its own or as a plug-in to other applications such as Adobe After Effects and Apple Final Cut Pro. The standalone app, which is also available for Linux, can load a wide range of file formats, including Cineon and OpenEXR, then export bitmap mattes or splines to other applications including Adobe After Effects, Apple Shake, and Discreet fire, flame, flint, inferno, and smoke. Mattes are automatically applied to the layer in the host app after rotoscoping.

Create a 3D image from a series of slides?

Hello,

I want to take a series of slices of tissue made at several micrometer thickness and render them into a 3D image, so as to calculate a lesion volume....any suggestions?

I'm interested in software available to do this, and ideally, envisioning: imaging all of the slices with a camera interface then "layering" them on top of one another to create a 3D image and analyze the volume of a lesion within the tissue.

Thank you.

Answer
"slices of tissue" slides ( tissue lesions )
http://www.nature.com/nrg/journal/v6/n6/fig_tab/nrg1618_F5.html
http://graphics.tudelft.nl/Publications/Malan2011

in someways it is the other way around where you have the whole object, and map the 3d image as whole, then dissect digitally with layers as slices to divulged anomalies or lesion ,

not clear as to aspects of re-rendering virtual solid from layering,
