Statue maker?

A(V)iTi$ F

i wanna know where could i buy a automatic head statue maker that can build statues with photos that it takes
i seen this device in public places before
but i wanna know more

Answer
not quite sure what you are talking about. If you are talking about a 3D laser scanner and a 3D printer then look either up. Or it's a CNC milling machine. Z-corp is a well known company for 3D printers.
Neither 3d laser scanner not 3D printer are yet household items. So the price is correspondingly. I'd be able to pay the rent for more than a year for what it could set you back.
If you are talking about something affordable for any average person, please post, I'd be interested as well.

Create a 3D image from a series of slides?

Hello,

I want to take a series of slices of tissue made at several micrometer thickness and render them into a 3D image, so as to calculate a lesion volume....any suggestions?

I'm interested in software available to do this, and ideally, envisioning: imaging all of the slices with a camera interface then "layering" them on top of one another to create a 3D image and analyze the volume of a lesion within the tissue.

Thank you.

Answer
"slices of tissue" slides ( tissue lesions )
http://www.nature.com/nrg/journal/v6/n6/fig_tab/nrg1618_F5.html
http://graphics.tudelft.nl/Publications/Malan2011

in someways it is the other way around where you have the whole object, and map the 3d image as whole, then dissect digitally with layers as slices to divulged anomalies or lesion ,

not clear as to aspects of re-rendering virtual solid from layering,

Could you see this machine within the next 75 years?

Qelery

A "Home Diagnosis Machine" that looks like a mini MRI machine in your home that you will use daily. First the machine takes a drop of your blood and saliva as a sample. Then you lay on the machine as it brings into the tube, just like an MRI machine. It scans you body for about 5 minutes, taking 3D images of your body and examining the blood. It would be able to tell you everything from your blood pressure, to cancerous tumors, to what vitamins you lack. Your results will be dispalyed on a touch screen. Everything that needs your attention will be shown to you. It will diagnose you and display what medication, vitamins, or medical attention you need. You select the medication you need to buy and the machine will send it to your local pharmacy.

Answer
Sure, why not? Except that it will probably not look like a MRI machine at all and won't need 75 years to come to market. Like almost any product, this hypothetical device would have to be user friendly as well as have user appeal. That means no big, bulky machines in the house/apartment. I would envision it as more of a solid state scanner that could be placed on the wall, ceiling, shower, door frame or even in your bed frame (basically anything you walk past). Depending on how many points of origin the scanner(s) has (or perhaps it uses some kind of depth sensitive radiation) it can then scan you in three dimensions while you are stationary. There are already consumer available 3D scanners that place objects on turntables and produce a 3D image. So there's the technological component.
I can also see such a device coming to homes due to society's increasing paranoia and obsession with personal health and hygiene (I think this borders on mass psychosis). Basically anything that promises to be of some benefit to personal health will be easily accepted by consumers even if there are other potential drawbacks.
Factors against the invention of such a device would likely have to be economic or political in nature since social acceptance and technology are already in place. Also, a newer and better method might also be discovered in that time.

Basic DJ Lighting Control?

Q. I've been entertaining the idea of mixing external lighting with the video editing / 3D I'm into for a while now. What would be the base price for such equipment to control stage lights / strobes from a computer, and where can it be bought? I've done a bit of research into it myself [DMX specifically], and would be interested in a one or two light system; nothing fancy. Note that I have no interest any other DJ equipment such as turntables and all that, just a basic lighting setup. How would such a system connect to a computer? Though I've seen some of the lights and standalone controllers, I haven't seen much about connections to a computer and controlling software.

Answer
Computer connection and control of DMX is quite expensive.

If you would like to just get started I suggest a package deal of 2 scanners and a controller.

What is a good camera for a beginning photographer?

mr.wanksal

I am a college student and am going to be moving to Australia for a while, and I am looking for a camera before I go. I have taken a few short photography lessons, so I know basically what I am doing. I am looking to spend between $100-$250

Answer
I started photography in 1964, have done my share of weddings and portraits, graduations, etc., including court evidence for landlord/tenant courts. Professional? I've lived off of photography, am semi-retired today.

When you buy a camera, consider that you're buying in to a lens system. Your camera's lens mount determines what lenses you can use, and that camera brand's lenses will be dependent on whether or not the camera brand changes its lens mount. Nikon has not changed its lens mount since 1959 and it is well known in the industry for great lenses with very good glass formulas. You won't have problems finding lenses in the future.

Best FILM camera for amateur, photography classes: Nikon N80 with the Nikkor 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6D lens (also a macro lens) or the Nikkor 35-105mm f/3.5-5.6D(macro) lens. This camera has many features that you will not outgrow anytime soon; it has spot meter, average/center-weighted metering and 3D matrix metering, can be used totally manually (you set the aperture, shutter speed) with auto-focus or without auto-focus, or aperture priority (you set the desired aperture, the camera sets the correct, corresponding shutter speed) or shutter priority (you set the desired shutter speed, the camera will set the correct, corresponding aperture) or totally automatic where the camera will set the aperture and shutter speed with auto-focus or if you wish, without the auto-focus. The camera is the best bang-for-your-dollar on this level, and it also has a built-in flash good up to about 5 feet. It is a sturdy, ergonomically built camera, will advance your film automatically and rewind the film as you take the last shot, and it sets the ISO automatically for you (although you can also override to "push" or "pull" film), it has on-command grid lines to help you maintain a level horizon when you do landscapes, seascapes and architectural photos. It is the poor man's "pro" camera. Get the instructions manual; there are many more features that I do not have the time or space to include here.

I still have two of these cameras even though I have my two trusty pro-level Nikon F5 cameras.

The lens is the most versatile lens around; you can use it as a wide angle lens (28-35mm), regular lens (45-55mm), as a portrait lens (80-90mm), as a short telephoto lens (90-105mm) and as a macro-lens (it converts to a macro lens by switching a small switch). The Nikkor 35-105mm f/3.5-5.6D (macro) lens is the older but equally good lens that is a few dollars cheaper. You might even want to include a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D for low light situations; this little lens is easy to carry and will help you out in low light situations where you might otherwise have great difficulties or you might not get at all.

Once you have the film processed, you can either scan the images at home (if you have a scanner at home) or you can have a CD made by the lab that processes your film. You'll the have the film for future use, and not have to worry about archival issues, still not unsettled in the digital technology.

Point and shoot camera: check into the Canon S3-iS. It does not have interchangeable lens but it has many good features considering its price range.

Best digital SLR for amateur or photography classes: Nikon D50 with the kit lens, which I would recommend over the Canon S3-iS since there's not much difference in prices and there is so much more camera in the Nikon D50; or, the Nikon D70S with the kit lens; this camera is still going strong and people are still raving over its many good qualities. With these Nikon cameras, you'll have a camera that will retain a higher resale price than any other when you decide to upgrade to another camera, and the lenses will surely fit any other Nikon digital camera!

Check with www.keh.com and see what they have; if you don't see what you want, go back in 2 or 3 days and be ready to buy at once since their merchandise doesn't stay very long on their shelves.

If you truly wish to stay in photography, whether to make this your profession or for the sake of having a lifelong hobby (that is also very therapeutic), get a camera that you can grow with, and develop skills and let your natural talents grow. But the best you can afford if you're sure that you're going to be in photography a long time, but buy wisely and save money in the process! For now, buy good but used cameras in good shape and buy only from reputable places where you'll have a certain degree of security.

You must have realistic expectations in buying your camera and lens; $250 is NOT realistic. Your best bet is to get a good but used N80 at about $170 and get the Nikkor 35-105mm f/3.5-5.6D(macro) lens for about $140 or so, or maybe about $530 for a Nikon D50 with the kit lens. Do NOT even think that you'll be saving any kind of real money by getting a generic lens; you will get what you pay for! Don't fall into this trap as so many others have; get into good habits from the start. If you choose to go with a Canon camera, get Canon lenses, and if you go with Nikon, get Nikkor lenses... don't put cheap tires on your Rolls-Royce! Cheap lenses are cheap lenses; stay away from generics!

Good luck and best wishes.

What is Magnetic Resonance Imaging?

Fatima Far

Need a detailed answer upto intermediate level...

Answer
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear magnetic resonance imaging (NMRI), or magnetic resonance tomography (MRT) is a medical imaging technique used in radiology to visualize internal structures of the body in detail. MRI makes use of the property of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) to image nuclei of atoms inside the body.

An MRI scanner is a device in which the patient lies within a large, powerful magnet where the magnetic field is used to align the magnetization of some atomic nuclei in the body, and radio frequency fields to systematically alter the alignment of this magnetization. This causes the nuclei to produce a rotating magnetic field detectable by the scannerâand this information is recorded to construct an image of the scanned area of the body. Magnetic field gradients cause nuclei at different locations to rotate at different speeds. By using gradients in different directions 2D images or 3D volumes can be obtained in any arbitrary orientation.

MRI provides good contrast between the different soft tissues of the body, which makes it especially useful in imaging the brain, muscles, the heart, and cancers compared with other medical imaging techniques such as computed tomography (CT) or X-rays. Unlike CT scans or traditional X-rays, MRI does not use ionizing radiation.

What is the difference between a traditional CT Scanner and a Spiral CT Scanner?

marshyanke

I know that a spiral produces thinner slices and perhaps in more detail, I am not really sure? I would like to better understand the science behind it? Also, could you respond with some understanding of MRI and Doppler scans as well? Could you provide some of the history of the above mentioned diagnostic tests? Thank you.

Answer
Computed tomography (CT), originally known as computed axial tomography (CAT or CT scan) and body section roentgenography, is a medical imaging method employing tomography where digital geometry processing is used to generate a three-dimensional image of the internals of an object from a large series of two-dimensional X-ray images taken around a single axis of rotation. The word "tomography" is derived from the Greek tomos (slice) and graphia (to write). CT produces a volume of data which can be manipulated, through a process known as windowing, in order to demonstrate various structures based on their ability to block the X-ray beam. Although historically (see below) the images generated were in the axial or transverse plane (orthogonal to the long axis of the body), modern scanners allow this volume of data to be reformatted in various planes or even as volumetric (3D) representations of structures.

Spiral CT scanning is just a new and advanced from of CT scanning: This is a newer type of CT scan, also known as a 'helical' CT scan. It is faster than a standard CT scan and gives an even more detailed picture of your organs and tissues, including blood vessels. This can make it useful for picking up very small tumours. It's called a spiral scan because the X-ray beam rotates around you during the scan in a spiral shape. This gives the radiographers a continuous picture, with no possible gaps between the 'slices' of the scan.

Pokédex 3D recieving data issues?

piplup25 d

My best freind has Pokédex 3D on her 3DS but it won't update at all, it's not internet connection as she has tried to let the app recieve Pokémon data at her house and my own house on two different internet connections but she hasn't been recieving the data for a few days now. Her 3DS is pre-owned but i don't think that has anything to do with the problem.

Any help would be appreciated thanks ^-^

Answer
One promblem is that you keep changing the internet source. You should keep it on one source and make sure that the camrea/scanner works fine. If this dosent help, go to the last owner or store you got it from and tell them about it.

Hope I helped! :D

Why all the hoopla over 3d printer guns?

Obama fail

What are the odds that normal folks have 2 - 50k to shell out for the machines that do this stuff. Just more hysteria from the media.

Latest example at nypost.com

Answer
Oh, you mean the thought that for say $5,000-$10,000 a group of terrorists like the Arian Brotherhood could create an arsenal of untraceable guns that could pass right through airport scanners, is all right with you? Well, it is NOT alright with 90% of Americans.

I have worked with 3D printers and the current generation IS capable of creating weapons that are untraceable and undetectable by airport scanners. And once you understand the process and practice creating the raw materials to print with you can literally create ceramic guns and cartridges and bullets that can't be detected by airport scanners. So what if one out of ten crack in the kiln if you are creating 1,000 that still leaves 900 working firearms.

How do game designers do 3D character modeling?

Sly Cooper

Is it just all writing code or is there some sort of 3D photoshop-like tool to do it?

Answer
They first discuss what the character should look like in a meeting with a 2d artist. The artist might make quick sketches to try to see if they are on the right track. From there the artist will make several variations to see which direction is most accurate . They may repeat this process a few times depending on how important the character is in the game. Towards the end of the process, they'll draw the same charter in different posses and situations to get a more polished idea.

When that's all settled they may either have a 3d model made of the character and then digitize it with a 3d scanner. If they're more low end, they most likely will just have the 3d artist recreate it using the drawings as reference.

The artist will use programs like 3D Studio Max, Maya or Lightwave. If they're very high end they may have their own proprietary software .

The next step is rigging the character. This is making a skeleton control system in the character. Think of it as virtual bones. They pull the hand and the arm bends to accommodate it. Like a puppet. Once that's all done they will make low polygon versions of the character so it can move quickly in a video game. The high polygon detailed model will be used for pre-rendered cut scene animations, opening sequences and commercials.

What is a EEG, MRI, CT, and ECG?

Lilly

i have to get all these tests done because i have starring spells, and they want to see what its linked to
does anyone know a little bit about any of scans and could tell me what they are, what they do, etc
im a little scarred :(

Answer
MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging. The scanner is shaped like a giant toilet roll inner. Not quite sure exactly how it works but is good at looking at different aspects of the body, like skeletal, muscular, soft tissue. It's a bit noisy, but worth getting this done. Takes 10 to 25 mins, depending on what you're having done.
CT stands for computed tomography. Shaped like a giant doughnut. It is a different method of using x-rays to build a 3D picture of the body. In the inside ring of the scanner, a 'camera' spins very fast around you, taking hundreds of pictures from all angles, then uses a clever computer program to create image slices. Much quieter and quicker than MRI and not so claustrophobic. Good for soft tissue, organs, vascular. Takes 5 to 15 mins to do this scan.
ECG is an Electrocardiogram. It's a test on your heart. Takes just 5 mins to do. 10 or 12 wires are applied to your chest, arms and legs and a printout is acquired that looks like a load of squiggly lines. Totally painless, you won't feel it. Gives a very good idea of what the heart is doing.
Sorry, but not sure about the EEG, I know it's stands for Electroencephalogram, something to test your brain, may be similar in method to the ECG, but I don't know.

What is a scanner?

Pilots nev

What do we use it for and what we can do with it?
How do i use it?
What is it doing?

Answer
In computing, a scanner is a device that analyzes images, printed text, or handwriting, or an object (such as an ornament) and converts it to a digital image. Most scanners today are variations of the desktop (or flatbed) scanner. The flatbed scanner is the most common in offices. Hand-held scanners, where the device is moved by hand, were briefly popular but are now not used due to the difficulty of obtaining a high-quality image. Both these types of scanners use charge-coupled device (CCD) or Contact Image Sensor (CIS) as the image sensor, whereas older drum scanners use a photomultiplier tube as the image sensor. Another category of scanner is a rotary scanner, used for high-speed document scanning. This is another kind of drum scanner, but it uses a CCD array instead of a photomultiplier. Other types of scanners are planetary scanners, which take photographs of books and documents, and 3D scanners, for producing three-dimensional models of objects, but these types of scanner are considerably more expensive than other types of scanners. Another category of scanner are digital camera scanners, which are based on the concept of reprographic cameras. Due to increasing resolution and new features such as anti-shake, digital cameras have become an attractive alternative to regular scanners. While still containing disadvantages compared to traditional scanners, digital cameras offer unmatched advantages in speed and portability.

What is good about Mac Book Pro ?

Fangerz

I am thinking of getting a new laptop this summer. But ihave twofriends who has an Acer and an Hp pavillion. They seem to enjoy their laptops. I was thinking to buy the new Hp Pavillion because it seems cool with the fingerprint scanner, built in camera etc. But i was fascinated about the MacBook Pro because they seem easier touse. Can anyone help choose?

These are some of my questions:

a) can MS word or any word processorworkon mac?ormac has its own?
b) can ragnarok, call of duty, or any rpg game work on mac?
c) can mac's battery life last long?
d) are mac's faster than windows?
e) are there driver for the mac?forexample you just got a new printer and you have to install the drive?
f) are mac's good for gaming? i know there not much games for mac but are there gameswich can run smoothly in mac
e) does mac have a goodsound system?

Answer
here's your answer. you can get a fingerprint scanner for the Mac. it's made by Sony. MacBook Pro's have built in camera's, really tiny ones. they DEFINITELY are easier to use.
A)MS Word has a special version just for Mac that you can get from www.Mactopia.com (official MS site)
B)A LOT of games are available for the Mac because they have superior frame rates and graphics. More are surely on their way.
C)A Pro's battery charged fully will give you about three hours of life between charges more or less.
D)they now average at about the same speed since they use the same processors, but Mac's have a different OS which is easier for the processor to run. So in some cases, Macs come out on top in speed.
E)Mac has almost every driver you'll ever need automatically built into the system. Just plug your printer in and it should work. If not, download the Mac driver from the printer's site.
F)I answered this.
E)MacBook's Pro soundsystem is excellent. You can also download a free program called OSS 3D which amplifies this incredible sound system even more. Furthermore, you can hook up external speakers to your Mac. check out www.MacHowDoI.com for more info!

what is the best computer (laptop) for designin 3d?

easy_g

what is the best computer for designin 3d.
Im about to go for a mac but still dont know.

Answer
3d... I would go with a PC and Windows. Pick your programs and devices first and you will see that there is much more for the PC.

But BIGGER is BETTER. I would be getting a desktop with one or two really BIG LCD monitors.

But if you MUST, then get the largest screen laptop that is available. A nice HP would do the trick.

HP Pavilion dv7-1137us NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo T5800(2.00GHz) 17.0" Wide XGA+ 4GB Memory 250GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi Intel GMA 4500MHD - $849.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834147795

Then, for rapid prototyping, I would get a 3d scanner, like this one.

Is the HTC Touch Pro2 an Android phone?

Sabrina

I have an HTC Touch Pro2, and I was wondering if it's an Android phone. Also, if you have any ideas on updates and such for the HTC Touch Pro2, please feel free to leave it along with your answer.
Please and thank you to those who try to answer this question. :]

Answer
Hi.The Touch Pro 2 is not an android phone.

--The touch pro 2 CDMA--

This update to the Touch Pro upgrades to a larger display that tilts up and adds 3G world roaming plus a 3.5mm audio jack. Other notable features include Facebook integration, auto-rotate, business card scanner, QWERTY keyboard, memory card slot, Windows Mobile, 3-megapixel camera, and WiFi.

--The Touch pro 2 GSM--

This update to the Touch Pro sports a larger display that also tilts up when open and advanced speakerphone features including dedicated mute button and noise cancellation, in a slightly thinner design. Other key features are similar, including Windows Mobile Pro with HTC's TouchFLO 3D interface, slide-out keyboard, memory card slot, 3 megapixel camera, and WiFi.

Is it possible to have authentic train horns scanned with a 3D scanner and then send the CAD data in to a 3D printing website and have them replicate the horns? Im talking about authentic nathan airchimes or leslie train horns.
