do they make a 3d body scanner and lathe?

locostan20

i own a wood carving business and i have had several people come and ask me if i could make a 2d/3d wood carving of child, dog etc.... so i was wanting to know if there was a computer controlled 3d body scanner and carver/lathe/miller/router????

Answer
I also own a wood carving business, I custom carve Gunstocks. Here is my link http://nwccdan.webs.com/ I just saw on youtube the other day a duplicator that does what you want to do. Go to YouTube and type in wood duplicator or gunstock duplicator. I do all my work by hand with no lasers or duplicators as you can see on my site. What is your site, I'd like to see it. Keep your blade sharp.

Suggestions for a full body 3d scanner?

jefs_me

I'm working on a project that will require a fair bit of full body 3d scanning - hence I'll want a system of my own, rather than a service.
Requirements:
fast - under a minute
resolution - should not require resolution of detail below say 1/16th inch

I know reliable 3d scans require a longer scanning time, but for my purposes, it just needs to resolve the basic proportions of the body, not skin texture and wrinkles. Given how long the tech has been around, and that the emphasis has been on getting more detail, I can't help but think there must be a way to get a fast low-detail scan.

Any ideas?

Answer
I can help you. We are a 3D scanning services and product representation firm with over 16 years history and a wide depth of skills, experience, applications, and industries - including full body scanning. We keep up with all of the technologies out there that can perform scanning for all areas.

I have a variety of solutions for you ranging in all parameters you can think of: price, speed, portability, resolution, coverage, technology basis, etc.

How to integrate 3d scanner on a robot?

minamoto

Answer
You could use gamma rays which might pentetrate through an object and bounce back. Normal light cannot penetrate through opaque solids like metal, and thus high frequency waves would be preferable. Another way would be to implement several scanners that would fly around the object and gather data from thousands of angles. Miniature robotic cameras shaped like a cube could be attached to 5 high power propellors (1 per face of the cube, leaving 1 face open for the camera itself) to ensure full mobility for the cameras. They could then be programmed to fly around the object and could possibly use electron scanning technology to measure the countours of the object. The mini-robots would then fly back to the main robot and upload the data, which would be pieced together and could be visually displayed in a 3 dimensional graphing program. The miniature robots would have to account for wind resistance and external interference (for example, if someone blew on a mini-robot, it would have to propel towards the wind in order to retain its current position). It's very possible, but would be extremely expensive and would take a good research team many years before it could be completely perfected for commercial use (or private use, if you have millions of dollars to throw out).

3D modelisation of antic statues?

Ella. H

I would like to create a 3D database (files readable in AutoCad or 3DsMax) of an important collection of antic statues of the museum i work in.

But i don't know what tools / equipement i need, and how much it cost. Help me please, i need it.

Answer
3D scanners are available including smaller scale with finer detail that would require moving the pieces to the scanner and larger scale where laser beams scan from semiportable devices that can be taken to the statues.
I would expect the former to cost $500 to $1000 and the latter to range upward from there.
The problem is that costs will vary by your location and the services available locally. An area with a number of firms making 3D scans for parts reproduction, etc. will have better opportunities than one in the boondocks.
This search for "3D scanning Dallas" produces about as many prime choices as I expected
https://www.google.com/search?q=3D+scanning&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#q=3D+scanning+Dallas&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial
with prices from a miniature USB item under $90 to $9000 hardware and many services - I expect that there will be some distortion of what I saw as Google tries to force items from your area into the search, but Dallas should provide a sample and you can check out both your immediate area and the nearest big city if you are not in one.

Java programming help, 3D room?

ali

Okay, I'm beyond lost at the moment. As you can tell, I'm a sucky programmer and I have a project due and any help on this would be awesome. Even just to get me started and get my brain cells moving hahaha

Okay, So. I have to write a program that separately prompts and inputs the length, width, and height of a room. Then, taking the floor of the room, it will calculate the rooms area and perimeter. THENNN, taking the room as a rectangular solid it will calculate the rooms surface area and volume. Then output the labeled results.

Answer
You'd get input like this:

======
Scanner inScanner = new Scanner( System.in );

System.out.print("Enter room length: ");
double length = inScanner.nextDouble();
======

You only have to make the scanner once, and can use it for all three inputs. I don't know if you are allowed to assume integer inputs (inches or rounded-off feet?).

Once you have length, width, and height, the rest are pretty straightforward, aren't they?

floor area = length * width
perimeter = 2*length + 2*width
volume = length * width * height
surface area = 2*length*width + 2*width*height + 2*length*height

Output is pretty simple:

System.out.println("Floor area = " + (length*width) );
(and analogously for the others).

Is there some other specific issue you are having?

how to create a 3d model of a guitar?

Paul

i want to create a 3d model of a guitar. what ways are there to help me create it with the software i have, as in importing photo files or a scanning the guitar itself?

Answer
if you meant to design 3D guitar on computer, you could simple collect measurements and re draw image in 3D editor like Sketchup

Sketchup
http://www.sketchup.com/
3d Warehouse
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?q=guitar&styp=m&scoring=t&btnG=Search
___________

Strata - 3D CX
http://www.strata.com/products/strata_3d_cx_suite/strata_foto_3d_cx/
could be use to take photos and place visually into rendered object of guitar body

if you meant to actually make model as life size copy,
that would require laser scanner and printer

Which of these 2 laptops is the best i really want both ?

Lee!

This is the windows one its fantastic and has blu-ray (£799).

http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/5080331/Trail/searchtext%3EHP+LAPTOP.htm

This is the apple macbook which doesn't compare in specs but there must be a reason why people by them(£829).

http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook

Thanks for the help any answers are appreciated because i dont want to buy the wrong laptop at this price. I'm currently using Windows vista and its good but i wouldn't mind going to Mac but i do use msn messenger alot and im not sure how well it works.

Answer
<sigh> Mac fanatics truly have the least computer knowledge, in comparison to the Linux & Windows fanatics.

Having the blu-ray drive shouldn't be a good reason for purchasing the computer unless you really need the extra storage. The discs are expensive, and are harder to find. I mean, take a look at DVD discs. There are DVD writers nowadays which can write DVDs faster than 16x (write-once) and 4x (re-writable), yet stores usually only sell 16x and 4x discs.

As far as viruses & trojans go on the Mac, it is true that you might not encounter one (or one that can actually do some damaga). HOWEVER, that does not mean that it is bulletproof. Linux isn't bulletproof either. If I was given an Assembler & the programming information for the Mac, I could easily write some really nice destructive trojans & viruses for it - if I wanted to. (People who write malware should be shot.) Deployment would be easy, because Mac users download copyrighted software via point-to-point networks just like Windows users.
(The biggest problem with Windows users is that they use the Administrator account exclusively, rather than using a seperate regular account for day-to-day work. Even if a virus scanner finds something, most malware won't be able to install without administrator access.)

The Mac has a better operating system, but it does not have the same amount of hardware & software available.
If you buy a Mac, then you have to spend time getting used to the new OS, though it shouldn't take too long.
You can run most regular Windows programs with a Windows emulator (though the programs run slower) and I don't think that you you'll have any problems with MSN messenger.

On the other hand:
You're already familiar and happy with Vista, which is significantly worse (performance & compatibility with older software) than the older XP, so that's a plus. The Vista laptop has a larger screen, and for the most part has more bang for the buck (or in your case, British pound <grin>).

Of course, if you don't play 3D games and don't use any specialty software, then you can always install Linux on the laptop. You can try out a Linux distribution for free by downloading a Live CD image and burning it to a CD. The Live CD doesn't write anything to your hard drive, so you can try out Linux without disturbing anything on your computer.

All 3 operating systems have enough software for regular work like word processing, video software, etc.
So, it comes down to what you're already comfortable with, and hardware features. I guess that means the Vista computer, and you always have the option of using Linux. Heck, you can have both Linux and Vista on your hard drive, or even boot Linux from from a flash drive when you want to use it.

What software do I need to make cartoons?

How do game designers do 3D character modeling?

Sly Cooper

Is it just all writing code or is there some sort of 3D photoshop-like tool to do it?

Answer
They first discuss what the character should look like in a meeting with a 2d artist. The artist might make quick sketches to try to see if they are on the right track. From there the artist will make several variations to see which direction is most accurate . They may repeat this process a few times depending on how important the character is in the game. Towards the end of the process, they'll draw the same charter in different posses and situations to get a more polished idea.

When that's all settled they may either have a 3d model made of the character and then digitize it with a 3d scanner. If they're more low end, they most likely will just have the 3d artist recreate it using the drawings as reference.

The artist will use programs like 3D Studio Max, Maya or Lightwave. If they're very high end they may have their own proprietary software .

The next step is rigging the character. This is making a skeleton control system in the character. Think of it as virtual bones. They pull the hand and the arm bends to accommodate it. Like a puppet. Once that's all done they will make low polygon versions of the character so it can move quickly in a video game. The high polygon detailed model will be used for pre-rendered cut scene animations, opening sequences and commercials.

Why dont airports use dogs instead of those 3d body scanners?

BillsGold

Dogs could detect everything those scanners do and more. Why not make them standard at every airport gate? My own theory is that you cant make a lot of money from dogs so there's no lobbyists advocating for dogs. You can make money off of those scanners ($150,000 a machine?). Is our security being subverted by washington lobbyists?

Answer
If each team had several dogs all trained in detecting different substances, the handlers could simply walk the dogs along the line of waiting passengers and remove anyone the dogs "hit" on. Forget technology, let nature expose them. I agree. Dogs not scanners.

Can samurai swords be made from 3-d printing?

420er

Just read a couple of articles about 3-d printing, thanks to that guy who printed out a plastic gun...just trying to imagine how 3-d printing can change our lives, and was imagining how it could be used, and in the course of such thinking, this question occurred. Is it possible to print out a strong, capable samurai sword with 3-d printing? If so, then I imagine 3-d printing can be used to make just about anything from any raw source material...which would change our lives in ways we can't even imagine today...we'll be living like gods where we can make anything at whim...

(I'm gonna repost this in other categories cuz I don't know a good match for this question.)
hey dragon, what show was that? I was imagining buying one regular 3-d printer that's on the market today and making bigger parts to make a bigger 3-d printer and keep making them bigger and bigger until I could build my own glider or car, etc., but a house?!? Wow! I wanna see that!

Answer
There was a show on about that, being the good and bad of 3D printers,
So it is not good that rich can afford to make and print there own weapons,
http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2013/may/06/3d-printer-gun-has-been-fired

So you could eventually make a pseudo sword, and it may cut some things less durable than the plastic, but not other steel, also in pieces, or require larger printer, these tools are meant for smaller items at this time,

Think about how mobile our computing devices have become and the convergence of different devices?

Michael

such as cameras, phones, computers, etc. What do you think the computer of the future will be like? What capabilities will it have that computers currently donât have? Do you see desktop computers becoming obsolete in
I mean becoming obsolete in the near future?

Answer
Well, D-Wave's quantum computer is worth watching.

Personally, I don't see desktop computers becoming obsolete especially soon.

I mean, I'm typing this on a mechanical keyboard and I'm looking at a display on my desk. That's the same as I used in about 1972, except back then it was a Tektronics storage display connected to a CDC mainframe. It's a setup I'm comfortable with. I've used smartphones, and I've used projection walls but for editing documents this is better. Of course, that's just the human interface - whether the computer is a mainframe, cloud, under the desk or built into the keyboard is of less concern.

I can see voice recognition finally making the leap to actually working for everyone, regardless of background noise and your accent.

For hardware, if 3D printers take off, I can see 3D laser or ultrasound scanners becoming more common, and some medical diagnostics becoming more mainstream (again, perhaps ultrasound or MRI based)

Can you photo-copy or scan a baby's ultrascan photo???

carrienich

I had my scan done yesterday and came into work to show my colleagues and to copy and scan it so as to send it to family overseas, but one of the girls says that you cant do this as it ruins the picture, or something???

Can you tell me if this is true??? Have any of you girls out there done this???

Its not one of the modern 3D ones just the usual black and white traditionale pciture.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Answer
I think your friend is talking about the fact that, long-term, the scan picture will fade from heat and light (as the paper and printing is the same as the old fax machines), but the light from the photocopier or scanner will not instantly ruin your scan picture.

Copying and scanning your ultrasound is actually the only way to guarantee you have a truly permanent record of your scan, because the printout the technician gave you will eventually fade. I have copied and scanned all of my ultrasound pictures onto my laptop, with NO problem whatsoever!

How to get out of a commission on deviantart?

Lyra

I accidentally got into a commission with someone on deviant art.
Now I'll be truthful with you: i am not a artist. I don't even have a scanner. The only reason I'm on that website is to find covers.
You may ask: why not tell the guy it was a mistake, and I hadn't meant to take the commission?
Well... he's suicidal.
Plus, the comish. involves bondage and BDSM, something I'm not exactly comfortable with.
Any help?

Answer
It is a matter of business law that when an offer is made, and someone has accepted the offer, the offerer is required to perform the offer.

In spite his being suicidal you must tell him it is a mistake and you lack the skills to perform the commission. If you have been paid anything you must return it asap.

Both you will be better off if you do this now rather than have him find out later you are unable to do it.

If you have an interest in making your own imagery for your covers there is free open source software for this. Photo-realistic 3D avatars can be made with software from:
http://www.makehuman.org/
The avatars can be put in 3D scenery and clothing made with:
http://www.blender.org/
This CAD software can also make objects in a more precise way which can be imported into Blender:
http://www.freecadweb.org/

Blender will have a steep learning curve, but it is well rewarding to learn it.

What is good about Mac Book Pro ?

Fangerz

I am thinking of getting a new laptop this summer. But ihave twofriends who has an Acer and an Hp pavillion. They seem to enjoy their laptops. I was thinking to buy the new Hp Pavillion because it seems cool with the fingerprint scanner, built in camera etc. But i was fascinated about the MacBook Pro because they seem easier touse. Can anyone help choose?

These are some of my questions:

a) can MS word or any word processorworkon mac?ormac has its own?
b) can ragnarok, call of duty, or any rpg game work on mac?
c) can mac's battery life last long?
d) are mac's faster than windows?
e) are there driver for the mac?forexample you just got a new printer and you have to install the drive?
f) are mac's good for gaming? i know there not much games for mac but are there gameswich can run smoothly in mac
e) does mac have a goodsound system?

Answer
here's your answer. you can get a fingerprint scanner for the Mac. it's made by Sony. MacBook Pro's have built in camera's, really tiny ones. they DEFINITELY are easier to use.
A)MS Word has a special version just for Mac that you can get from www.Mactopia.com (official MS site)
B)A LOT of games are available for the Mac because they have superior frame rates and graphics. More are surely on their way.
C)A Pro's battery charged fully will give you about three hours of life between charges more or less.
D)they now average at about the same speed since they use the same processors, but Mac's have a different OS which is easier for the processor to run. So in some cases, Macs come out on top in speed.
E)Mac has almost every driver you'll ever need automatically built into the system. Just plug your printer in and it should work. If not, download the Mac driver from the printer's site.
F)I answered this.
E)MacBook's Pro soundsystem is excellent. You can also download a free program called OSS 3D which amplifies this incredible sound system even more. Furthermore, you can hook up external speakers to your Mac. check out www.MacHowDoI.com for more info!

what is the best computer (laptop) for designin 3d?

easy_g

what is the best computer for designin 3d.
Im about to go for a mac but still dont know.

Answer
3d... I would go with a PC and Windows. Pick your programs and devices first and you will see that there is much more for the PC.

But BIGGER is BETTER. I would be getting a desktop with one or two really BIG LCD monitors.

But if you MUST, then get the largest screen laptop that is available. A nice HP would do the trick.

HP Pavilion dv7-1137us NoteBook Intel Core 2 Duo T5800(2.00GHz) 17.0" Wide XGA+ 4GB Memory 250GB HDD 5400rpm DVD Super Multi Intel GMA 4500MHD - $849.99

Then, for rapid prototyping, I would get a 3d scanner, like this one.

Good luck
