How can I scan a picture off of a wall?

My bf and I are moving out of our home and he has lived there for years. Well he's had many parties and a BUNCH of friends left signatures on his bathroom wall. Unfortunately a group of his friends died and he refuses to paint over it. Is there a way you can scan or copy the wall so we can have it saved? I would just take a picture but its all over and its on all sides of the walls. I heard there is a handheld scanner you can get to print or save to your computers. Anybody know where? or what they're called?

Answer
Not even sure if they're available anymore--handheld scanners. Googled and found some--"Handheld document scanners"--but they're way expensive. ($500+) At that price, you're better off cutting out that section of the wall and then plastering it (or re-drywall). The cost of repairing a small hole is under $20...tools and materials included.

If you go that route...here's a good tutorial on drywall repair.

Do I have to pre-order Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance online in order to get the AR cards?

Michael

Do I have to pre-order online, or can I just pre-order from the store?

Answer
Easiest way to find out for sure is to ask the physical store, and if they say no, just pre-order online.

However, I've been told that you can essentially cheat the system by printing off scanned copies of the AR cards, if you can get the right colours. The AR scanner just looks for a particular colour pattern.

If you want to test it out, find a decent image of an AR marker that comes with the 3DS, print it off, and see if you can use it for those Nintendo character photo things.

first keep practicing all methods of your art skills, cartoon caricatures, and animation, there are tools and tutorials online, and also check your local library, while at library, check colleges and booklets for information, as well at your school guidance counselors,

hardware you may want to use, are, a scanner, camera, tablet, and printer, and very good computer capable of doing rendering fast, with larger monitor and good video card, and extra ram,

you do still need various pencils and paper for sketching and scanning, and possibly a under light table top to draw on, may be a drafting table or large clear table top,

adobe, corel have all the program for designing, note~ though apple and microsoft and sun-java, and others, also have software, for their hardware,

where are pokemon qr codes?

Brendan ,a

are they on the card?

Answer
I'm pretty sure they will have it on cards eventually, but Bulbapedia, has a full sheet of all the codes right here:

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/File:Pok%C3%A9dex_3D_AR_Codes.png

They DO work if scanned by the scanner, trust me, I've indeed tried and got it to work. They will unlock stickers for Pokemon you already have and the first code will unlock Victini, and some of the codes in the last row will unlock the Musketeer Trio and Reshiram and Zekrom.

I need to scan in some parts to add to a CAD model. I'm really looking for something that's plug and play, where I drop the object into the scanner and it automatically puts it into a CAD packge. Any ideas?

Answer
What do you consider low cost? Good ones run around $10,000 (e.g., Roland) but you can find some for around $2,500 (e.g., Nextengine).

How do I convert a 2d image into a 3d image that i can paint digitally?

Kevin Solt

I paint miniature models for a board game called Warhammer 40k, and I want to know if there is a program (or programs) that can allow me to upload a picture of the model, and paint it (even in a different program) so that I can try out new paint schemes without having to actually buy the paints first and put them on the model. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Answer
Well, this is a bit of a complicated task. Unless you have the money to be spending on a three-dimensional scanner, you're pretty much sunk.

If you simply want to test out colors, your best bet may be to take photos of your unpainted model (or have it painted white, if you want better results later), convert the photo to grayscale and open it in Photoshop.

Create a new layer, set it to multiply, and use the brush tool to color on top of the black and white photo of the model. This should give you a good enough indication of what the end result will look like.

Should I install Windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit...?

I have a Dell Dimension E510 with a Pentium 4 Processor. I also have a 256 MB video card and a 250 gb HDD. I have 4 GB of Memory but currently, only 1/3 of the 4th slot is actually used (so I have 3.24 gb of RAM at the moment). I was wondering if I should install windows 7 32 bit or 64 bit to better take advantage of the increased RAM. What would be the benefits/disadvantages and would I be able to fully take advantage of the 4 GB with a 64 version of windows 7?
*Also, I was wondering what the difference between 64 and 32 bit will be for my computer and which one will be better and have better results? Thanks for your answers!

Answer
Good question... many ask this... ok ill give u the pros and cons of both ultimately you are the judge.
PRE-REQUISITES: If you have a 64bit processor then only u should install the 64bit version of windows otherwise u might screw it all up

In the years to come the battle between 64 bit & 32 bit systems..the 64bit ones will definitely be rendered as the winner but the change will take some time.
64 bit processors are newer improved versions over 32 bit processor's older structure. A 64-bit processor is made with more advanced silicon processes, have more transistors, and faster speeds. This is currently where the true benefit of switching to a 64-bit processor lays(I.e win7 64bit can utilize the advanced design of your processor otherwise its a waste). The true benefit goes to big companies, organisations etc that involve handing huge databases, forms, documents complex calculations... etc u know faster processing, receiving, manipulating and calculating, storage power.Basically it has slightly greater strength with greater speed(speed being dominating factor). So 64bit is definitely better but to really use it with max benefit u need at least 4gb ram..(i see u have that condition fulfilled) dont worry about the 3.24 gb it utilizes the physical memory only.
Only disadvantage of 64 bit is that most of the software/programs/applications around the world havent yet made the transition for being used by 64bit processors(as 64bit processors logarithms are little different from 32 bit) so causes stability issues with few(not all) programmes as you may not find programs suited for 64 bit but only for 32bit(example: only 64bit versions of WindowsMediaplayer,Adobeacrobat reader will work with ur 64b processor not 32bit ones) they just cause little errors.well u can add that 64b processors are little bit more costly.
Advantage of 32 bit: well u have a decent processor and it has decent processing speed.(wont cause u any harm etc moreover u can freely get any software for ur pc as theres always a 32bit version for it)
BUT 64bit one can make ur program file searching, creating docs, accessing them easily etc bit more faster.Indexing is also improved in 64bit version of windows.
If u get 64 bit u will have the advanced version for years to come.. remember that most of 64bit programs work on 32bit systems but the converse is not true.U've noticed i've used the word little a lot.. all in all it makes little difference.. but when it comes to powerful computing u'll feel the difference. You will only be able to unleash the benefits of windows 7 64bit if u have the 64bit processor.(U havent mentioned that)the 64-bit version of Windows can run faster because it can address more physical memory (the RAM instead of eating temp stores of ur hard drive.. so its a medic for ur HDD too).
Unless you are building a computer that is specifically designed to run a special application such as 3D modeling, video gaming or work with massive amounts of data AND you have the discipline to only install applications that have been written as 64-bit programs or you do the research to ensure that whatever you install including your printer, scanner or digital camera software will not cause a problem on 64-bit Windows versions, your likely better off sticking to the 32-bit version that provides less headaches......The best way that I can explain how to navigate this question is, if you have to rely on this column to make your decision about which way to go, stick to the 32-bit version.(if ur having countless doubts.. those research savvy enough to find 64bit stuff will wield the victory wand)

PS: i have omitted the pure mathematical and structural aspects of the two coz u wont understand a thing :) Hope this story helps you as well as others who constantly have this doubt...thanks for reading this... i presume it was'nt quite easy to comprehend to ^___^

Hello,

I want to take a series of slices of tissue made at several micrometer thickness and render them into a 3D image, so as to calculate a lesion volume....any suggestions?

I'm interested in software available to do this, and ideally, envisioning: imaging all of the slices with a camera interface then "layering" them on top of one another to create a 3D image and analyze the volume of a lesion within the tissue.

Thank you.

in someways it is the other way around where you have the whole object, and map the 3d image as whole, then dissect digitally with layers as slices to divulged anomalies or lesion ,

not clear as to aspects of re-rendering virtual solid from layering,

Can you make fantasy characters from scratch in photoshop?

I was wondering if it's possible to create a fantasy character like cloud from the FFX series or any cartoon / manga styled people.

Are the tools thier to allow you to build them from scratch inside photoshop... say for example if i wanted to draw custom naruto characters.

Im thinking about doing this to add to my college portfolio as i have just started graphics at college. thanks in advance!

Answer
of course! ;) Photoshop has all the tools you need to create a fully rendered, coloured character. It is the industry standard for projects of this type.To all intents and purposes, photoshop is a 2D application, so you wont be able to create a 3d model, but for a picture, for sure!! Since most people who develop characters work from sketches, it also has the ability to import straight from a camera/scanner etc for you to trace and rework!!

Good Luck!!

1-State 3 ways in which data about the goods may be entered into the points of sales (POS) terminals ?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
(A bicycle company use robots in its facory which have an arm with a paint spray attached)

A-State 2 way in which the computer can be instructed to
control the robot arm ??

B-State 2 advantages of the company of using the robot to do the painting ?

C-State 2 disadvantages of the company of using the robot to do the painting ?

Answer
1. a) scan the object's UPC code with the laser scanner
b) enter the object's UPC code manually into the keypad
c) just type the object's description manually into the POS terminal keyboard (e.g. "bananas bunch").

2. a) motion capture. A human actually paints a bicycle frame, and sensors record the position and 3D angling of the paint nozzle, and the pressure his hand applied to the handle.
b) The positioning data can be modified by entering data from a keyboard.

3. a) The robot performs the same way EVERY TIME. If it performs flawlessly once, it'll do it again and again.
b) The robot performs tirelessly. It can run 24/7 (except for maintenance times), does not need to have a pension plan or healthcare coverage.

4. a) The robot isn't flexible. It paints the same way every time. If you get a new frame, you'll need to reprogram the robot arm via motion capture again.
b) Sorry, I could only think of one disadvantage to using a robot for painting!! Um... maybe... the local labor union will hate your guts for replacing a skilled worker with a robot arm! LOL. Edit: If the robot breaks down, you have to wait for a factory rep to come out and fix it!

How to get out of a commission on deviantart?

Lyra

I accidentally got into a commission with someone on deviant art.
Now I'll be truthful with you: i am not a artist. I don't even have a scanner. The only reason I'm on that website is to find covers.
You may ask: why not tell the guy it was a mistake, and I hadn't meant to take the commission?
Well... he's suicidal.
Plus, the comish. involves bondage and BDSM, something I'm not exactly comfortable with.
Any help?

Answer
It is a matter of business law that when an offer is made, and someone has accepted the offer, the offerer is required to perform the offer.

In spite his being suicidal you must tell him it is a mistake and you lack the skills to perform the commission. If you have been paid anything you must return it asap.

Both you will be better off if you do this now rather than have him find out later you are unable to do it.

If you have an interest in making your own imagery for your covers there is free open source software for this. Photo-realistic 3D avatars can be made with software from:
http://www.makehuman.org/
The avatars can be put in 3D scenery and clothing made with:
http://www.blender.org/
This CAD software can also make objects in a more precise way which can be imported into Blender:
http://www.freecadweb.org/

Blender will have a steep learning curve, but it is well rewarding to learn it.

What is the likeliness of getting a gau-19?

John

Like how much $$$ would one need to order the d*mn thing?
How hard it is to aquire one in the first place?
And what kind of federal license would you need to have to own it?
Lastly, what process would need to be carried out to aquire this license?

I'm guessing a kind of military license, $5,000, and a due process to order, ship, and receive as well as shipping payment. General Dynamics doesn't just hand out Gau-19s to just anyone, although that would be pretty convenient. And i'm guessing extensive training (military) and testing to aquire this particular license. I'm also guessing that from its little popularity and being widely unkown that it may be easier than i think, still difficult, but easier to aquire than that of an m134.

below, I get a little off here, so read if you please but you don't have to cause it's not part of my question, just some facts and links, i'd rather have my questions answered.

My reasons for wanting to aquire this weapon is for a last defense for when the tyranny of our government reaches to the point of an absolute dictatorship and we merge into the rest of the worlds
revolution in the act to rebuild nations, that this will help defend myself and my family, an ar-15 won't cut it. Also, because of its 3 barrels and ability to change the R.O.F. of the weapon, can help preserve ammo than its 6 barreled counterpart (m134), and speaking of ammo, it has a larger round than its counterpart making the gau-19 (50-BMG) better than the m134 (7.62 x 51). And although the .50 is more expensive than the other, because of the lower fire rate of the gau-19, in the long run, i save, cause its the m134's 5,000 rpm Vs. the gau-19's 1,000 rpm rate (or selectable 1,250 rpm, 1,300 rpm, and 2,000 rpm). So as you can see here, my reasons are very good reasons. My final reason is because, admit it, it's an awesome weapon, the machine in my favorite game series Halo for the XBox is modeled after the gau-19.

gau-19 is the 4th one down

Answer
It might be possible to purchase one from a foreign military entity. You can buy MIG-29 fighter jets from former soviet republic air forces. Some are for sale for around 5 million dollars. You might not be able to get a GAU-19 since they do not just sell them to anyone. If you are really that determined to get one you could use 3d scanners to help reverse engineer the GAU-19 in 50 caliber and produce one for yourself. If in the end with all of the legal paperwork ,and tax stamps you can have a fully automatic GAU-19. If you cannot get your hands on a GAU-19 you could make something similar that could do the same job ,but reverse engineering an GAU-19 is probably your best bet since you probably will not be able to get one imported or purchase one from general dynamics. Remember you will have to get the proper manufacturing licenses from the ATF.

What can I use to cast a mold from stone without hurting the stone?

3d scanner structured light

3d scanner structured light image

disciple

I'm new to this, but does anyone know what medium I would use to make a mold from a stone. In other words, There is an old building with a beautiful design sculpted in to it. I want to copy this design. I know there is a material out there that I can press against the original design and make a mold of it and then cast the design in plaster. I just don't know what material I would use to do this without hurting the stone.... Help!!!

Answer
I think the sculpey or any clay will work. If you use normal clay, any residue left will dissolve in the next rain, just don't use brown clay on light stone... if you use water based clay you would have to cast your plaster into the mold while the clay is still wet.
As the clay won't be very stable just on its own, you should consider making a mother mold on top of that. That is a hard shell, which just gives support to the soft part of your mold so it doesn't deform. It depends on the size of what you want to copy if you need it. You could make the mothermold from plaster bandages, but don't put plaster directly on the stone.
Before you start, consider carefully the shape of what you want to copy and where undercuts are and where you have to put in parting lines. What technique you use for mold making really depends on the exact shape of what you want to copy. If the structure is something complicated, you may want to practice how to make molds from more simple structures first so you are aware what causes problems and get some experience in how to solve them.

Another completely contact free method is if you happen to be at a university where they have a 3D laser scanning camera you can borrow, you could use the 3D laser scanner then make a model of your structure in the computer from the scans. That you could print out using a 3D printer. that way you can scale the model to any size (though anything large will be expensive to print)

what are some reverse engineering techniques?

Kevin7

Answer
Reverse engineering of machines
As computer-aided design (CAD) has become more popular, reverse engineering has become a viable method to create a 3D virtual model of an existing physical part for use in 3D CAD, CAM, CAE or other software. The reverse-engineering process involves measuring an object and then reconstructing it as a 3D model. The physical object can be measured using 3D scanning technologies like CMMs, laser scanners, structured light digitizers or computed tomography. The measured data alone, usually represented as a point cloud, lacks topological information and is therefore often processed and modeled into a more usable format such as a triangular-faced mesh, a set of NURBS surfaces or a CAD model.
Reverse engineering is also used by businesses to bring existing physical geometry into digital product development environments, to make a digital 3D record of their own products or to assess competitors' products. It is used to analyse, for instance, how a product works, what it does, and what components it consists of, estimate costs, and identify potential patent infringement, etc. Value engineering is a related activity also used by businesses. It involves de-constructing and analysing products, but the objective is to find opportunities for cost cutting.

Reverse engineering of software
The three main groups of software reverse engineering are
1. Analysis through observation of information exchange, most prevalent in protocol reverse engineering, which involves using bus analyzers and packet sniffers, for example, for accessing a computer bus or computer network connection and revealing the traffic data thereon. Bus or network behaviour can then be analyzed to produce a stand-alone implementation that mimics that behaviour. This is especially useful for reverse engineering device drivers. Sometimes, reverse engineering on embedded systems is greatly assisted by tools deliberately introduced by the manufacturer, such as JTAG ports or other debugging means. In Microsoft Windows, low-level debuggers such as SoftICE are popular.
2. Disassembly using a disassembler, meaning the raw machine language of the program is read and understood in its own terms, only with the aid of machine-language mnemonics. This works on any computer program but can take quite some time, especially for someone not used to machine code. The Interactive Disassembler is a particularly popular tool.
3. Decompilation using a decompiler, a process that tries, with varying results, to recreate the source code in some high-level language for a program only available in machine code or bytecode.

Reverse engineering of integrated circuits/smart cards
Reverse engineering is an invasive and destructive form of analyzing a smart card. The attacker grinds away layer by layer of the smart card and takes pictures with an electron microscope. With this technique, it is possible to reveal the complete hardware and software part of the smart card. The major problem for the attacker is to bring everything into the right order to find out how everything works. Engineers try to hide keys and operations by mixing up memory positions, for example, busscrambling. In some cases, it is even possible to attach a probe to measure voltages while the smart card is still operational. Engineers employ sensors to detect and prevent this attack. This attack is not very common because it requires a large investment in effort and special equipment that is generally only available to large chip manufacturers. Furthermore, the payoff from this attack is low since other security techniques are often employed such as shadow accounts.

Answer
it's a virus of some kind.
1) scan with avg free 8.0, download it from download.com
2) try spybot s&d too, scan with both.
3) stop using internet explorer, get mozilla firefox - compared to firefox, explorer is a waste of space, unless you ENJOY a browser with security flaws.
4) get the add-on for firefox called "ad block plus", it stop all ads from loading when you're browsing.

a.d. edit - good, nearly 70% of people still use IE, so i was just making sure. don't trust things that pop up, they're designed to confuse you by imitating virus scanners making you click. if your browser will let you go to different sites, go here: http://www.download.com/AVG-Anti-Virus-Free-Edition/3000-2239_4-10320142.html, download, install, update, run a full scan. i think norton is a waste of resources. it didn't work this time anyway. then run spybot s&d, maybe reinstall firefox too. main thing is to be careful what you're doing - never trust pop ups and stay away from dodgy sites.

is it really better than kaspersky?

cyrax_07

is nod32 really better thaN kaspersky? others say yes others not..im confused...

i need explanation pls... because i ran a full scan computer with kaspersky it didnt detect anything while nod32 detected a virus..

Answer
Nod32/kaspersky both r my fav.

but kaspersky is damn slow...

but nod32 is ultra fast, no more slow down system,

nod32 work nice with 3D games....

so no more slowdown games

and price...

Nod 32......$39.00 for one year and I can't seem to find the cost of a renewal fee..

Kaspersky...$39.95

This is simply a software vendor using available tests to show their product in the best possible light.

1. NOD probably has the best heuristics of any AV at the present time BUT it needs this as it is slower than a number of vendors in adding new malware to their database, particularly if it is slow-spreading.

2. It is a very fast scanner but not the fastest. Again they have reported its performance against SELECTED rivals. Command AV and F-Prot, for example, IME, are faster on-demand scanners than NOD.

3. Again the RAM footprint figures are again selective. Command, F-Prot, Dr Web and KAV 6 all have lower memory footprints than NOD.

4. ITW detection over at VirusBulletin does not show the true picture as you can fail the test with false positives and yet still pass the test even if you do not score 100% detection!!! However, NOD is very good at ITW threats.

It is better to look at a range of testing sites to get an overall picture.

NOD is a very good AV and it has shown hugh improvements in its detection rate in the last 12-18 months and version 3 is on the way.

But it has deliberately chosen to give high priority to the tests over at VirusBulletin and recently av-comparatives so it can use the results over on its main site and in its Advertisements in the Computer Press. Compared to other vendors, they make sure they are prepared for ITW testing for VirusBulletin as the samples are known prior to testing. Moreover, they make sure that they add the MISSED zoo malware samples from any av-comparatives test to their database. Some vendors however, such as Dr Web, are very slow to add these missed samples and therefore they would not use this test on their web-site!

Overall this is very good PR by Eset.

ALL AV vendors obviously use any information in the best way to highlight the main reasons why you should choose their product. After all they are commercial vendors!!!!!!

I have been a licensed user of both NOD and KAV for many years and both will give you good protection.

But do not expect a balanced viewpoint on a KAV forum. But then again I would not expect a fair discussion if KAV was discussed on the NOD forum at Wilders.

Think about how mobile our computing devices have become and the convergence of different devices?

such as cameras, phones, computers, etc. What do you think the computer of the future will be like? What capabilities will it have that computers currently donât have? Do you see desktop computers becoming obsolete in
I mean becoming obsolete in the near future?

Answer
Well, D-Wave's quantum computer is worth watching.

Personally, I don't see desktop computers becoming obsolete especially soon.

I mean, I'm typing this on a mechanical keyboard and I'm looking at a display on my desk. That's the same as I used in about 1972, except back then it was a Tektronics storage display connected to a CDC mainframe. It's a setup I'm comfortable with. I've used smartphones, and I've used projection walls but for editing documents this is better. Of course, that's just the human interface - whether the computer is a mainframe, cloud, under the desk or built into the keyboard is of less concern.

I can see voice recognition finally making the leap to actually working for everyone, regardless of background noise and your accent.

For hardware, if 3D printers take off, I can see 3D laser or ultrasound scanners becoming more common, and some medical diagnostics becoming more mainstream (again, perhaps ultrasound or MRI based)

can I use a flat bed scanner to photograph a 3D object?

ben

Im not looking to photograph anything large, just 2"-3" tall. When I scan an object, anything touching the glass comes out clear, but anything 1/2" or more off the glass comes out blurred and dark. Is there a particular scanner out there that is known to scan objects well? Or is there some special techniques I can try to enhance my images quality? Thank you

Answer
Nope, sorry. Flatbed scanners are only focused on the glass with that .5 you discovered. You can make some cool images by rolling the thing along the motion of the scanning sensor that may look pretty groovy, but you cannot take a photo.
I'd walk into the closest camera shop and ask to see a camera and bring a card in with you to take the image home.

What software is there for creating your own Comics?

3d scanner download
 on DAVID 3D Scanner - Freeware - EN - Download.CHIP.eu
3d scanner download image

Isaac F

Im getting a MAC very soon and I wanted to know what I need software wise to help me out? I will be using a good camera and a good scanner to catch my comic shots. Anyone know any good programs for mac or any hardware to help me out?

Answer
There are any number of ways you can make a comic strip, from drawing it entirely with a pen or pencil on folded pieces of paper, to drawing it and then scanning and doing clean-up digitally, or doing the entire thing digitally. You can use any tools to string together sequential images in any way to make a comic. There are no rules, there are no limits.

If you're really interested in making a comic, you should definitely buy or take a trip to the library to take out Scott McCloud's "Making Comics." It's a great book and sequel to his "Understanding Comics" which not only goes over some of the tools and techniques of making comics, but deconstructs the concepts, theories, standards and practices of visual storytelling.

Best part is, the book about comics is a comic book itself!

http://www.kk.org/cooltools/archives/001441.php

Also, any Digital imaging suite like Adobe Photoshop can be used to make comics. Some free alternatives are Paint.NET and Gimp or Gimpshop.

http://www.getpaint.net/

http://www.gimpshop.com/

Kazu Kibuishi has a step-by-step tutorial on how he makes his webcomic, "Copper," on this site:

http://www.boltcity.com/workshop/copper_tutorial/

There are also some programs you can use that try to help making comics easier. Manga Studio is a popular choice for black and white comics. However, it's pretty pricey.

There's also TokyoPop's Manga Creator:

It's much much cheaper than Manga Studio, and easier to use. The dowside is that it has less features. It's up to you what you'd want to spring for.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/tokyopop-manga-creator-2

There's also Comic Book Creator 2, which is fairly cheap. Which usually means, easy to use but low on advanced features:

http://www.myplanetwide.com/products/detail/description.html?id=41

It's up to you to find out exactly what these programs can do and decide whether it's worth paying for that extra functionality.

If you're on a Mac, there's Comics Life. It should already be on your Mac, I think. If it's not, you can download a demo here:

With which program can I make faces for PES like patch makers do?

I downloaded PES 2010 patch and I saw that the Bundes (German) League players are made with more details (like Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo. Kaka and other good players). I wanna know how to make faces like those.

Unless you have a 3D scanner in your house you can't.

What can I use to cast a mold from stone without hurting the stone?

3d scanner to 3d printer
on 3D printers: We want what we want when we want it
3d scanner to 3d printer image

What specific items (equipment, software, etc.) will I need to start a graphic design business?

ammy2000

I know of a few general items like computer and scanner but what I'm really looking for are specifics such as:

* Recommended hardware brands and models,
* Details for computer (processor speed, RAM, etc.)
* Details for scanner (pixels x pixels)
* Will I need something like a PDA
* Recommended software
* Any thing I missed above

Answer
Graphic Design is a very wide major, it depends what you're good at , but you'll defiantly need:

Hardware: http://www.apple.com
Apple Macintosh is strongly recommended, because it's specially designed for Graphic Designers and it's PERFECT..
High resolution Scanner
High resolution Printer
PDA is not really important unless you want to be organized i can't live without it really, and i use it to show my customers some samples of logos, visit cards, and stuff.

Processor speed: G5 is the best specially for these days.
RAMs minimum you need 2GB
Screen at least 19 (depends on your products) if for TV production use 23

Softwares:
You MUST have adobe Photoshop.. you will need this software for anything.

For Logos, posters, envelopes, letterhead, personal cards..etc. you'll need:
-Adobe photoshop
-Adobe illustrator

For Web Design:
- Micromedia Flash (for Animated sites)
- Dream Weaver (for HTML sites)

For Visual Effects:
- After Effects (it's the best)

For Editing: (you can choose one of those):
- Avid
- Edius
- Final Cut Pro (recommended)

For 3D architecture:
- 3Ds Max

For TV 3D Characters Creation:
- Maya
- Soft Image XSI

For 2D Cartoons:
- Soft Image ToonBoom

If you need more Help, Please do not hesitate to Mail me..
I would be glad to help..
