Is there any software or online service that can translate a jpg of a 2D/3D barcode to words?

Derek C

Is there any software or online service that can translate a jpg of a 2D/3D barcode image to words?
That way I don't need to buy a $300 3D (PDF417) barcode scanner to do the job.
Oh, I see there is app for iphone to do such. I need one for PC Windows.

Answer
I believe this is what your looking for. Its called Barcode Creator 3.1 and I use it as a Tool other than "Creation" which i am sure you will too.This may not be 100% for you but it certainl something you didn't have before a a BC tool. However, if you can name some program(s) you are looking for I MAY be able to find it free.

take care

I want to learn 2D animation. Should I buy a scanner & printer?

timcrinion

As a side question, I'm 28 and haven't actually done any animation yet. Is this too late to practice animation to a professional (ie getting a job) level? I've been wanting to do it for a few years, I don't think it's a phase.

Answers only from animators please!

Answer
here some x-rays you can use to show how food enters and exits the body from swallowing to pooing, the images are taken by getting the patient to swallow a powdered based drink called barium. barium is a dense material which allows doctors to investigate whether your insides are working properly.

swallowing (food entering mouth, going down oesophagus into stomach):

http://www.radiographicceu.com/article23.html

here is a youtube video of a barium swallow in real time, this person has somesort of oesophagile reflux - this were food travels back up toward the mouth instead of going into stomach.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fCQ_MrhhGvI

this is the stomach, the arrow points to were the oesophagus meets the stomach:

http://www.szote.u-szeged.hu/radio/nyelocs/anyel6b.htm

This one is called a small bowel enema, a tube (which you can see on the x-ray) is inserted down the oesophagus into the small bowel. this is were food goes after the stomach.

http://farm1.static.flickr.com/36/123159727_900bab501a_o.jpg

This one is called a barium enema, this image is of the large bowel, this is were food goes after the small bowel... after this, its time for your food to meet the toliet

http://www.medicine.cu.edu.eg/english/students/study/x_ray_surgery/xray/intestine/141_normal_ba_enema.jpg

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF_1sUYHL5M - the colon (large bowel)

heres another one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8BVY5qfZKwk&feature=related - again 3d colon taken using a CT scanner, a ct scanner is a hi-tech x-ray mechine which rotates around the body also called cat scan.

if you talk about the structures of each segment/body piece, you might be able to distinguish them on the x-rays

bored now so hope this is ok etc...

How to make a minecraft mod?

Ugly Coupl

I have been searching the internet for videos and articles on how to create a minecraft mod. The problem I keep having is all the pages and videos I find leave out too much information and do not explain things well enough, so I can go on and make my own mod (not just a new block or new mod).
I want to make a battle mod with magic and new arrows that you have to get to a certain level to buy.

Please post videos and articles, as detailed as possible. DON't POST LINKS TO OTHER MODS.

Answer
Look, I'm going to be frank with you.

It is dang impossible to learn how to write a minecraft mod from a youtube video or a Y!A post. Making a minecraft mod requires Java, which is a programming language. Learning a programming language is akin to learning a spoken language if you want do it well. For instance, here is a code in Java that simply adds two numbers.

import java.util.Scanner;

public class FirstProgram
{
public static void main(String[] args) {
System.out.println("Hello out there.");
System.out.println("I will add two numbers for you.");
System.out.println("Enter two whole numbers on a line");

int n1, n2;

Scanner keyboard = new Scanner(System.in);
n1 = keyboard.nextInt();
n2 = keyboard.nextInt();

System.out.println("The sum of those two numbers is");
System.out.println(n1 + n2);

}

}

Now, to create a mod, not only would you have to use code much more complicated than that, you would need to design 3d models, import them into the world, etc. Sorry

Paul

i want to create a 3d model of a guitar. what ways are there to help me create it with the software i have, as in importing photo files or a scanning the guitar itself?

Answer
if you meant to design 3D guitar on computer, you could simple collect measurements and re draw image in 3D editor like Sketchup

Sketchup
http://www.sketchup.com/
3d Warehouse
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?q=guitar&styp=m&scoring=t&btnG=Search
___________

Strata - 3D CX
http://www.strata.com/products/strata_3d_cx_suite/strata_foto_3d_cx/
could be use to take photos and place visually into rendered object of guitar body

if you meant to actually make model as life size copy,
that would require laser scanner and printer

Baby not moving much after the 3D U/S?

sweety

I had a 3D ultrasound during my 31st week of pregnancy... Now I am 33 weeks and 2 days... A girl who did it was new... Have not seen her there before... The same day I saw my doc shouting at her for doing some blunder...

She was the one who did a 3D U/S for me... When it was being done, the baby was constantly having his face covered with his left hand... Just to make him remove his face and see his face clearly, this girl kept pressing my tummy hard with the scanner... Would that have hurt my baby?? Would that scanner have hit my baby's head and caused any damage?
Would this be the reason why my baby is not moving much these days? Please help me.. I am really worried to have hurt my baby with the U/S... I already love my baby a lot and dont want him to get hurt in anyway...

Answer
It's very normal around 30+ weeks for the baby's movements to not feeling as frequent or strong as before. The baby is getting bigger and has less room to move. He's also taking up more space and there is less amniotic fluid so it's more difficult for him to move around. It's totally normal. If you are really concerned call your doctor. Typically they say to drink some orange juice and then lie on your left side to increase blood flow. While resting, count over a 60 minute period how many times you feel the baby move. You should feel about 10+ movements/ hour. If you don't call your doctor and explain your concerns. They will probably want you to come in for an ultrasound or just to make sure all is ok.

My ultrasound tech bounced my guy around a lot too trying to get him to move his hand out to the way too. It felt like she did it way too hard, but it didn't affect him and my guess is that he's just running out of room to move.

Congrats!

What's the difference between a 3D ultrasound and a 4D ultrasound?

David's mo

Thank you!

Answer
3D and 4D (moving 3D pictures) scanning gives amazing three dimensional picture of your baby on the screen. Your baby can be seen moving, yawning, sucking its thumb and even apparently smiling.

The equipment uses sophisticated techniques, transforming the traditional 2D scan such as the one that you have at the hospital into a 3D and 4D images.

The scan uses the same ultrasound output levels as the hospital based 2D scanners and as the machine actually generates the image, the exposure time is minimised. The safety of ultrasound is constantly evaluated and the British Medical Ultrasound Society (BMUS) has produced documents to ensure its safe use.

With this in mind, your scan will only be performed by someone who holds a recognised medical or ultrasound qualification and who is registered with the appropriate professional bodies.

Hope this helps!! :)

what a video card? a 3D scanner? you to more details

HD video (1080p) lags was smooth before but lags now?

Saad Khan

I have 500 GB hdd a week back it suddenly got really slow and the CPU red light was continuously on.
It slowed to a point that I had to format C: and re-install windows xp.
I have some HD movies on my hdd that were working fine but now lag a lot on my HD monitor.
upon scanning I found 4kb bad sectors in my C: drive.
System specs:
Core 2 duo 2.93
2 GB DDR2
9500 GT 1 GB 3d card
500 GB hdd.
I need to know if changing the Hard drive would solve this issue?
Or anything Else I can do?

Answer
Hi, if sectors in the harddrive keep going bad then you may want to replace it. Try these other options first since you are on xp. Could be your video hardware acceleration turned off or down, instructions below to check that.

Try disabling the builtin xp video media thumbnail pic previewer. Here is directions followed by some info on it. And a list of other stuff to check. The xp video media thumbnail pic previewer is evil and will freeze a computer if even only one file disagrees with it.

DISABLE - click start - click run - type in cmd and click ok - type in regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll then press enter and it should be successful. (You can copy and paste that command in just like it is.)

Re-Enable - click start - run - type in cmd and click ok - type in regsvr32 shmedia.dll then press enter and it should successfully re-enable media thumbnail viewer. (You can copy and paste that command in just like it is.)

I recommend you disable the builtin xp video media thumbnail pic previewer. This thing is most likely your problem, it will lockup or freeze an xp computer sometimes even just on startup if any videos are saved to the desktop or opening any folders with videos and sometimes while playing videos especially avi format. If this thing sees one file that doesn't agree with it, then it will freeze you pc also. Only thing you will lose is ability to see preview thumbnail pics for videos in folders, but your pc will never freeze again while dealing with videos. I recommend you keep it disabled at all times, but it can be re-enabled if wanted at any time. You will never get that file cannot be moved or deleted again or video file in use message also.

Other than that also make sure you video hardware accleration is set to full,

Click start - control panel - display - last tab over at top settings - advanced tab at bottom - troubleshoot tab at top - make sure the slider is set all the way to full - click apply then ok - then click ok again to close it out

1. Could be some files corrupted somewhere. Click start - my computer - right click on (c) drive - go to second tab over tools - under error checking click on check now - checkmark automatically fix errors now - you will probably be asked to restart so it can check the disk. You can also checkmark the second box if you want but it will take a while to do the disk check. If it fixes anything you may have to reinstall some programs.

Download malwarebytes anti-malware free version and do a disk scan. This is a very good antivirus scanner. You never know. http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?tag=mncol;1

3. You may have a program or codec conflict somewhere. You never want more than one codec pack installed at a time. Sometimes converting programs carry their own codecs and can conflict unknowingly.

4. Have you changed your screen resolution on you monitor lately. Sometimes this will cause computer to act up.

5. Hit control alt delete and make sure you don't have too many programs open all at once eating up memory.

I can't think of anything else I hope this helps you out. Good luck!

What is a good camera for a beginning photographer?

mr.wanksal

I am a college student and am going to be moving to Australia for a while, and I am looking for a camera before I go. I have taken a few short photography lessons, so I know basically what I am doing. I am looking to spend between $100-$250

Answer
I started photography in 1964, have done my share of weddings and portraits, graduations, etc., including court evidence for landlord/tenant courts. Professional? I've lived off of photography, am semi-retired today.

When you buy a camera, consider that you're buying in to a lens system. Your camera's lens mount determines what lenses you can use, and that camera brand's lenses will be dependent on whether or not the camera brand changes its lens mount. Nikon has not changed its lens mount since 1959 and it is well known in the industry for great lenses with very good glass formulas. You won't have problems finding lenses in the future.

Best FILM camera for amateur, photography classes: Nikon N80 with the Nikkor 28-105mm f/3.5-5.6D lens (also a macro lens) or the Nikkor 35-105mm f/3.5-5.6D(macro) lens. This camera has many features that you will not outgrow anytime soon; it has spot meter, average/center-weighted metering and 3D matrix metering, can be used totally manually (you set the aperture, shutter speed) with auto-focus or without auto-focus, or aperture priority (you set the desired aperture, the camera sets the correct, corresponding shutter speed) or shutter priority (you set the desired shutter speed, the camera will set the correct, corresponding aperture) or totally automatic where the camera will set the aperture and shutter speed with auto-focus or if you wish, without the auto-focus. The camera is the best bang-for-your-dollar on this level, and it also has a built-in flash good up to about 5 feet. It is a sturdy, ergonomically built camera, will advance your film automatically and rewind the film as you take the last shot, and it sets the ISO automatically for you (although you can also override to "push" or "pull" film), it has on-command grid lines to help you maintain a level horizon when you do landscapes, seascapes and architectural photos. It is the poor man's "pro" camera. Get the instructions manual; there are many more features that I do not have the time or space to include here.

I still have two of these cameras even though I have my two trusty pro-level Nikon F5 cameras.

The lens is the most versatile lens around; you can use it as a wide angle lens (28-35mm), regular lens (45-55mm), as a portrait lens (80-90mm), as a short telephoto lens (90-105mm) and as a macro-lens (it converts to a macro lens by switching a small switch). The Nikkor 35-105mm f/3.5-5.6D (macro) lens is the older but equally good lens that is a few dollars cheaper. You might even want to include a Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D for low light situations; this little lens is easy to carry and will help you out in low light situations where you might otherwise have great difficulties or you might not get at all.

Once you have the film processed, you can either scan the images at home (if you have a scanner at home) or you can have a CD made by the lab that processes your film. You'll the have the film for future use, and not have to worry about archival issues, still not unsettled in the digital technology.

Point and shoot camera: check into the Canon S3-iS. It does not have interchangeable lens but it has many good features considering its price range.

Best digital SLR for amateur or photography classes: Nikon D50 with the kit lens, which I would recommend over the Canon S3-iS since there's not much difference in prices and there is so much more camera in the Nikon D50; or, the Nikon D70S with the kit lens; this camera is still going strong and people are still raving over its many good qualities. With these Nikon cameras, you'll have a camera that will retain a higher resale price than any other when you decide to upgrade to another camera, and the lenses will surely fit any other Nikon digital camera!

Check with www.keh.com and see what they have; if you don't see what you want, go back in 2 or 3 days and be ready to buy at once since their merchandise doesn't stay very long on their shelves.

If you truly wish to stay in photography, whether to make this your profession or for the sake of having a lifelong hobby (that is also very therapeutic), get a camera that you can grow with, and develop skills and let your natural talents grow. But the best you can afford if you're sure that you're going to be in photography a long time, but buy wisely and save money in the process! For now, buy good but used cameras in good shape and buy only from reputable places where you'll have a certain degree of security.

You must have realistic expectations in buying your camera and lens; $250 is NOT realistic. Your best bet is to get a good but used N80 at about $170 and get the Nikkor 35-105mm f/3.5-5.6D(macro) lens for about $140 or so, or maybe about $530 for a Nikon D50 with the kit lens. Do NOT even think that you'll be saving any kind of real money by getting a generic lens; you will get what you pay for! Don't fall into this trap as so many others have; get into good habits from the start. If you choose to go with a Canon camera, get Canon lenses, and if you go with Nikon, get Nikkor lenses... don't put cheap tires on your Rolls-Royce! Cheap lenses are cheap lenses; stay away from generics!

Good luck and best wishes.

Which of these 2 laptops is the best i really want both ?

This is the windows one its fantastic and has blu-ray (£799).

This is the apple macbook which doesn't compare in specs but there must be a reason why people by them(£829).

http://store.apple.com/uk/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook

Thanks for the help any answers are appreciated because i dont want to buy the wrong laptop at this price. I'm currently using Windows vista and its good but i wouldn't mind going to Mac but i do use msn messenger alot and im not sure how well it works.

Answer
<sigh> Mac fanatics truly have the least computer knowledge, in comparison to the Linux & Windows fanatics.

Having the blu-ray drive shouldn't be a good reason for purchasing the computer unless you really need the extra storage. The discs are expensive, and are harder to find. I mean, take a look at DVD discs. There are DVD writers nowadays which can write DVDs faster than 16x (write-once) and 4x (re-writable), yet stores usually only sell 16x and 4x discs.

As far as viruses & trojans go on the Mac, it is true that you might not encounter one (or one that can actually do some damaga). HOWEVER, that does not mean that it is bulletproof. Linux isn't bulletproof either. If I was given an Assembler & the programming information for the Mac, I could easily write some really nice destructive trojans & viruses for it - if I wanted to. (People who write malware should be shot.) Deployment would be easy, because Mac users download copyrighted software via point-to-point networks just like Windows users.
(The biggest problem with Windows users is that they use the Administrator account exclusively, rather than using a seperate regular account for day-to-day work. Even if a virus scanner finds something, most malware won't be able to install without administrator access.)

The Mac has a better operating system, but it does not have the same amount of hardware & software available.
If you buy a Mac, then you have to spend time getting used to the new OS, though it shouldn't take too long.
You can run most regular Windows programs with a Windows emulator (though the programs run slower) and I don't think that you you'll have any problems with MSN messenger.

On the other hand:
You're already familiar and happy with Vista, which is significantly worse (performance & compatibility with older software) than the older XP, so that's a plus. The Vista laptop has a larger screen, and for the most part has more bang for the buck (or in your case, British pound <grin>).

Of course, if you don't play 3D games and don't use any specialty software, then you can always install Linux on the laptop. You can try out a Linux distribution for free by downloading a Live CD image and burning it to a CD. The Live CD doesn't write anything to your hard drive, so you can try out Linux without disturbing anything on your computer.

All 3 operating systems have enough software for regular work like word processing, video software, etc.
So, it comes down to what you're already comfortable with, and hardware features. I guess that means the Vista computer, and you always have the option of using Linux. Heck, you can have both Linux and Vista on your hard drive, or even boot Linux from from a flash drive when you want to use it.

Sweet Home 3D Help Windows 7?

Adam Matti

Ok first off is this program even safe for me to be using and second off i updated my laptops Java, Adobe, windows 7 operating system and what ever else it has told me to update and this morning i got on it to use and it keeps saying 'Security Risk' this application will run with unrestricted access and retrieve access to personal info, web cam, microphone, and so on. what should i do about this i really don't wanna delete it because i have several things done on it.

Answer
Sweet Home 3D

files (40mb)

It should be safe, depending on which service or version you are using, if you are trying the online browser version, then that requires linking via network on computer with permissions along with java scripting access,

the mac version is java jar , windows is exe, but probably contains jar java files,

also if you install express, then it add tools bar as extra, that may be problem
if you do not want that software, use custom install and disable add on feature,

older versions did not have that extra, but older version may not work on newer os systems,

if not sure re-install and go through steps,

Help me with 2D -> 3D CS5?

JD

Could anyone here on Answers link a tutorial or write a short guide on how to turn 2D nets into 3D shapes using either Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop? (both CS5)
I am quite the CS5 n00b :P
i have the nets - 6 sides
all i want to know is how to virtually fold it up and construct the shape on the computer

Answer
The true answer is simple: You CANNOT convert a 2D image into a 3D representation [full stop].
Photoshop, nor Illustrator, is good at that either: it tries to interprete a 2D image to "extract" the third dimension (the depth), but this is NEVER correct.
The only way to create a mesh (or a shape) in 3D is to use a 3D software (like 3DS Max), and use 2 2d images (ie Front and Profile) to recreate the 3D shape. Even this is not good enough: you do not have the "hidden dimensions" (the back, the other side!).
To TRULY make a 3D shape, you need 6 images (the faces of a cube), or use a 3D scanner...

Could you see this machine within the next 75 years?

Qelery

A "Home Diagnosis Machine" that looks like a mini MRI machine in your home that you will use daily. First the machine takes a drop of your blood and saliva as a sample. Then you lay on the machine as it brings into the tube, just like an MRI machine. It scans you body for about 5 minutes, taking 3D images of your body and examining the blood. It would be able to tell you everything from your blood pressure, to cancerous tumors, to what vitamins you lack. Your results will be dispalyed on a touch screen. Everything that needs your attention will be shown to you. It will diagnose you and display what medication, vitamins, or medical attention you need. You select the medication you need to buy and the machine will send it to your local pharmacy.

Answer
Sure, why not? Except that it will probably not look like a MRI machine at all and won't need 75 years to come to market. Like almost any product, this hypothetical device would have to be user friendly as well as have user appeal. That means no big, bulky machines in the house/apartment. I would envision it as more of a solid state scanner that could be placed on the wall, ceiling, shower, door frame or even in your bed frame (basically anything you walk past). Depending on how many points of origin the scanner(s) has (or perhaps it uses some kind of depth sensitive radiation) it can then scan you in three dimensions while you are stationary. There are already consumer available 3D scanners that place objects on turntables and produce a 3D image. So there's the technological component.
I can also see such a device coming to homes due to society's increasing paranoia and obsession with personal health and hygiene (I think this borders on mass psychosis). Basically anything that promises to be of some benefit to personal health will be easily accepted by consumers even if there are other potential drawbacks.
Factors against the invention of such a device would likely have to be economic or political in nature since social acceptance and technology are already in place. Also, a newer and better method might also be discovered in that time.

In what ways do robots help humans?

In what ways? do they make our jobs easier. and how do they help us

Answer
Contemporary uses
Main articles: Industrial robot and Domestic robot

Robots can be placed into roughly two classifications based on the type of job they do. The first category includes tasks which a robot can do better than a human. Here, robots can increase productivity, accuracy, and endurance. The second category consists of dirty, dangerous or dull jobs where it is desirable to replace human labor with robotics.

[edit] Increased productivity, accuracy, and endurance
A Pick and Place robot in a factory

Many factory jobs are now performed by robots. This has led to cheaper mass-produced goods, including automobiles and electronics. Stationary manipulators used in factories have become the largest market for robots. In 2006, there were an estimated 3,540,000 service robots in use, and an estimated 950,000 industrial robots. [35] A different estimate counted more than one million robots in operation worldwide in the first half of 2008, with roughly half in Asia, 32% in Europe, 16% in North America, 1% in Australasia and 1% in Africa.[36]

Some examples of factory robots:

* Car production: Over the last three decades automobile factories have become dominated by robots. A typical factory contains hundreds of industrial robots working on fully automated production lines, with one robot for every ten human workers. On an automated production line, a vehicle chassis on a conveyor is welded, glued, painted and finally assembled at a sequence of robot stations.
* Packaging: Industrial robots are also used extensively for palletizing and packaging of manufactured goods, for example for rapidly taking drink cartons from the end of a conveyor belt and placing them into boxes, or for loading and unloading machining centers.
* Electronics: Mass-produced printed circuit boards (PCBs) are almost exclusively manufactured by pick-and-place robots, typically with SCARA manipulators, which remove tiny electronic components from strips or trays, and place them on to PCBs with great accuracy.[37] Such robots can place hundreds of thousands of components per hour, far out-performing a human in speed, accuracy, and reliability.[38]

Automated guided vehicle carrying medical supplies and records

* Automated guided vehicles (AGVs): Mobile robots, following markers or wires in the floor, or using vision[39] or lasers, are used to transport goods around large facilities, such as warehouses, container ports, or hospitals.[40]

*
o Early AGV-Style Robots were limited to tasks that could be accurately defined and had to be performed the same way every time. Very little feedback or intelligence was required, and the robots needed only the most basic exteroceptors (sensors). The limitations of these AGVs are that their paths are not easily altered and they cannot alter their paths if obstacles block them. If one AGV breaks down, it may stop the entire operation.

*
o Interim AGV-Technologies developed that deploy triangulation from beacons or bar code grids for scanning on the floor or ceiling. In most factories, triangulation systems tend to require moderate to high maintenance, such as daily cleaning of all beacons or bar codes. Also, if a tall pallet or large vehicle blocks beacons or a bar code is marred, AGVs may become lost. Often such AGVs are designed to be used in human-free environments.

*
o Newer AGVs such as the Speci-Minder,[41] ADAM, [42] Tug[43] and PatrolBot Gofer[44] are designed for people-friendly workspaces. They navigate by recognizing natural features. 3D scanners or other means of sensing the environment in two or three dimensions help to eliminate cumulative errors in dead-reckoning calculations of the AGV's current position. Some AGVs can create maps of their environment using scanning lasers with simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) and use those maps to navigate in real time with other path planning and obstacle avoidance algorithms. They are able to operate in complex environments and perform non-repetitive and non-sequential tasks such as transporting photomasks in a semiconductor lab, specimens in hospitals and goods in warehouses. For dynamic areas, such as warehouses full of pallets, AGVs require additional strategies. Only a few vision-augmented systems currently claim to be able to navigate reliably in such environments.

[edit] Dirty, dangerous, dull or inaccessible tasks
A U.S. Marine Corps technician prepares to use a telerobot to detonate a buried improvised explosive device near Camp Fallujah, Iraq

There are many jobs which humans would rather leave to robots. The job may be boring, such as domestic cleaning, or dangerous, such as exploring inside a volcano.[45] Other jobs are physically inaccessible, such as exploring another planet,[46] cleaning the inside of a long pipe, or performing laparoscopic surgery.[47]

amd 3 cores vs intel 2 cores?

Warrior

will amd triple core be more effective than intel core 2 duo

Answer
The AMD Phenom II X3 720 (2.8 GHz) is currently the same price as the Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 (2.93 GHz).

Whether the X3 720 is "more effective" than the E7500 depends on whether you're running multi-threaded programs which can take advantage of the third core.

In single-threaded programs, the E7500 is generally faster, roughly 6%-7% faster in general processing, and as much as 10%-15% faster in games.

However, in some CPU intensive, multi-threaded programs --programs which make full use of the third core --the X3 720 can see a 20%-30% advantage.

So, you have to think about which programs you primarily run. If you use the computer for gaming, then you're better off with the Intel Core 2 Duo, that is, unless you know for certain one or more of your favorite games are multi-threaded (examples being GTA4, SIMS 3, and some 3D shooter warfare type games). For a general purpose computer, with less gaming, either CPU could work well. The X3 720 would work well enough generally, and the third core would give a noticeable boost on the occasional multi-threaded tasks, like WinRAR, video encoding, anti-virus scanners, etc.

However, for most users, running most programs, the comparison between the AMD X3 720 and the Intel E7500 favors the Intel processor a little.

Also, if you decide you really do run multi-threaded programs --for video encoding, 3D rendering programs, folding@home, certain high-end games, whatever --then you probably should be looking at a Phenom II X4 anyway, not the X3. (There's now a 95W version of a Phenom II X4 945 3.0 GHz that looks pretty good, considering it's the same price as an Intel E8400 3.0 GHz.)

Java programming help, 3D room?

ali

Okay, I'm beyond lost at the moment. As you can tell, I'm a sucky programmer and I have a project due and any help on this would be awesome. Even just to get me started and get my brain cells moving hahaha

Okay, So. I have to write a program that separately prompts and inputs the length, width, and height of a room. Then, taking the floor of the room, it will calculate the rooms area and perimeter. THENNN, taking the room as a rectangular solid it will calculate the rooms surface area and volume. Then output the labeled results.

Answer
You'd get input like this:

======
Scanner inScanner = new Scanner( System.in );

System.out.print("Enter room length: ");
double length = inScanner.nextDouble();
======

You only have to make the scanner once, and can use it for all three inputs. I don't know if you are allowed to assume integer inputs (inches or rounded-off feet?).

Once you have length, width, and height, the rest are pretty straightforward, aren't they?

floor area = length * width
perimeter = 2*length + 2*width
volume = length * width * height
surface area = 2*length*width + 2*width*height + 2*length*height

Output is pretty simple:

System.out.println("Floor area = " + (length*width) );
(and analogously for the others).

Is there some other specific issue you are having?

there are 3D printers, that prints plastic printers. are there 3D scanners?

Jim

i understand that there are "scanners" that tells you how much of a certain element there are in a sample.

relating to this question, are there printers that also print other material?

Answer
Do YOU have any idea what you are talking about?

There are "printers" that can "printer" a 3D model using a special plastic polymer.

There are also "scanners" that can scan the dimensions of a 3D object. Most often, the input from the scanner can be used to make a plastic model of the subject using the 3D "printer".

BOTH are very expensive --several thousand dollars.

Other than that -- set back, take a breath, ask a clear and understandable question.
