how to create a 3d model of a guitar?

Paul

i want to create a 3d model of a guitar. what ways are there to help me create it with the software i have, as in importing photo files or a scanning the guitar itself?

Answer
if you meant to design 3D guitar on computer, you could simple collect measurements and re draw image in 3D editor like Sketchup

Sketchup
http://www.sketchup.com/
3d Warehouse
http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?q=guitar&styp=m&scoring=t&btnG=Search
___________

Strata - 3D CX
http://www.strata.com/products/strata_3d_cx_suite/strata_foto_3d_cx/
could be use to take photos and place visually into rendered object of guitar body

if you meant to actually make model as life size copy,
that would require laser scanner and printer

Geomagic 3D Haptic Design, Imaging and Metrology software
http://geomagic.com/en/

NextEngine 3D Laser Scanner
http://www.nextengine.com/

Handyscan Handheld 3D Scanners
http://www.creaform3d.com/en/handyscan3d/default.aspx

3D Printers and Rapid Prototyping | 3D Systems
http://www.zcorp.com/en/home.aspx
..

Can you recommend a guide and software for making 3D objects?

Tomas

My idea is to take photos of bones (scapula, femur...) from different angles, run them through a software which will somehow combine them and make a 3D object in space, that i can rotate and add annotation (tags?, description for different parts of bone)

I am not a programmer and i need something easy.

Do you have any ideas? :)

Answer
photos are 2d. you can get depth, but not 3d. you need a 3d scanner like a next engine 3d scanner they run $3000. the web site is pretty cool, it will show you how to scan and print. the printer in the web site is is a year old and now they have much better printers with more options on materials available.
for software you will need a program like Solidworks. it is #1 right now for 3d. it is what Pixiar animation use and many large companies. there are other programs, but after my research for myself most will not talk to the scanner. down side is cost and you need a pretty big system to run it.
then if you want you can send it to a 3d printer for a few dollars you will get a actual 3d sculpture. there are several 3d printers, but after looking at many the 'shapesways gallery' they can print in plastics, metal, ceramics.
this stuff is super cool. this should lead you in the right direction. these printers have only been available for public about a year, but they have been around since the 80s.

equality tech 3d dental scanning review? dental scanning implants in MI?

Steve

Anyone in the dental field use equality tech for dental scanning? deep scanning area, sharp margin line etc.. how quick is their turn around time & final product? please answer only if your familiar with this technology, thanks.

Answer
I've actually purchased there DS2 white light scanner for our lab. We love it and its very automated with a click of a button it scans 18-23 areas. Very fast!!! The scanner has 2 cameras that allows it to scan deep areas and for sharp margin lines it has 2 high resoulution cameras and its an open system. Good Luck and I defiantly recommend them.

How do game designers do 3D character modeling?

Sly Cooper

Is it just all writing code or is there some sort of 3D photoshop-like tool to do it?

Answer
They first discuss what the character should look like in a meeting with a 2d artist. The artist might make quick sketches to try to see if they are on the right track. From there the artist will make several variations to see which direction is most accurate . They may repeat this process a few times depending on how important the character is in the game. Towards the end of the process, they'll draw the same charter in different posses and situations to get a more polished idea.

When that's all settled they may either have a 3d model made of the character and then digitize it with a 3d scanner. If they're more low end, they most likely will just have the 3d artist recreate it using the drawings as reference.

The artist will use programs like 3D Studio Max, Maya or Lightwave. If they're very high end they may have their own proprietary software .

The next step is rigging the character. This is making a skeleton control system in the character. Think of it as virtual bones. They pull the hand and the arm bends to accommodate it. Like a puppet. Once that's all done they will make low polygon versions of the character so it can move quickly in a video game. The high polygon detailed model will be used for pre-rendered cut scene animations, opening sequences and commercials.

can you tell me why the electron configuration for a lead atom is?

tc

[Xe] (4f^14 )(5d^10)(6s^2)(6p^2)
can u plz show me how to get this...

Answer
Okay try and follow me with this, if I had my scanner here I'd do this on paper and scan it in for you but this is the best we can do now:

-Pull out a periodic table & look up Lead (Pb) it has an atomic number of 82.
-Okay, your instructor should have given you the list of the oder that the electrons would fill in each sublevel, like the following
1s
2s 2p
3s 3p 3d
4s 4p 4d 4f
5s 5p 5d 5f
6s 6p 6d
7s 7p (and such...)

The way that the electrons will fill each sublevel goes diagonally down starting with like so: 1s 2s 2p 3s 3p 4s (notice here that I didn't continue on with 3d but INSTEAD i went diagonaly down-left to 4s because this is of lower energy than 3d-continue...go back up to level 3) 3d 4p 5s (notice diaginally down-left)

Now you know that you must know that each "sublevel"(i.e. s, p, d, f) has a certain number of orbital:
s = 1
p = 3
d = 5
f = 7
And in each orbital there can be two electrons occupying that spot therefore the max. number of electrons per sublevel is:
electrons in s = 1 x 2e- = 2e-
electrons in p = 3 x 2e- = 6e-
electrons in d = 5 x 2e- = 10e-
electrons in f = 7 x 2e- = 14e-

Now to your question:
Lets write the sublevels up to where you will have up to 82 electrons:
1s^2, 2s^2, 2p^6, 3s^2, 3p^6, 4s^2, 3d^10, 4p^6, 5s^2, 4d^10, 5p^6, 6s^2, 4f^14, 5d^10, 6p^2

Okay now gather all the exponents and add to see if you get 82 electrons (expoenents represent the number of electrons in each sublevel):
2 + 2 + 6 + 2 + 6 + 2 + 10 + 6 + 2 + 10 + 6 + 2 + 14 + 10 + 2 = 82

This is the long way of writing the elctron configuration of lead in order to write the short way you use a nobel gas to replace some of those earlier electrons. This method requires looking at the periodic table and looking for the near noble gas with a fewer number of electrons than lead. Therefore go up a row and the noble gas turns out to be [Xe]. You know that Xe's atomic number is 54 and therefore has 54 electrons already. Take 82 (Pb-lead) - 54 (Xe) = 28

So you can write [Xe] and then add on another 28 electrons.
Well, just go back up to the long-hand method: 1s^2, 2s^2, 2p^6, 3s^2, 3p^6, 4s^2, 3d^10, 4p^6, 5s^2, 4d^10, 5p^6, 6s^2, 4f^14, 5d^10, 6p^2

add up the electrons until you get 54 which is equal to [Xe]:
2 + 2 + 6 + 2 + 6 + 2 + 10 + 6 + 2 + 10 + 6 = 54 Therefore everything up to 5p^6 represents [Xe] so you've accrounted for most of those orbitals, you only have 28 left which is essentially the (6s^2, 4f^14, 5d^10, 6p^2) part:
2 + 14 + 10 + 2 = 28 (there's your remaning 28 electrons)

Therefore the short-hand way is: [Xe] 6s^2 4f^14 5d^10 6p^2

I hope this helps!!

Good luck!

Here's also a website for you to read and review there seems to be some examples at the bottom. http://www.fordhamprep.org/gcurran/sho/sho/lessons/lesson36.htm

How to integrate 3d scanner on a robot?

minamoto

Answer
You could use gamma rays which might pentetrate through an object and bounce back. Normal light cannot penetrate through opaque solids like metal, and thus high frequency waves would be preferable. Another way would be to implement several scanners that would fly around the object and gather data from thousands of angles. Miniature robotic cameras shaped like a cube could be attached to 5 high power propellors (1 per face of the cube, leaving 1 face open for the camera itself) to ensure full mobility for the cameras. They could then be programmed to fly around the object and could possibly use electron scanning technology to measure the countours of the object. The mini-robots would then fly back to the main robot and upload the data, which would be pieced together and could be visually displayed in a 3 dimensional graphing program. The miniature robots would have to account for wind resistance and external interference (for example, if someone blew on a mini-robot, it would have to propel towards the wind in order to retain its current position). It's very possible, but would be extremely expensive and would take a good research team many years before it could be completely perfected for commercial use (or private use, if you have millions of dollars to throw out).

In what ways do robots help humans?

In what ways? do they make our jobs easier. and how do they help us

Answer
Contemporary uses
Main articles: Industrial robot and Domestic robot

Robots can be placed into roughly two classifications based on the type of job they do. The first category includes tasks which a robot can do better than a human. Here, robots can increase productivity, accuracy, and endurance. The second category consists of dirty, dangerous or dull jobs where it is desirable to replace human labor with robotics.

[edit] Increased productivity, accuracy, and endurance
A Pick and Place robot in a factory

Many factory jobs are now performed by robots. This has led to cheaper mass-produced goods, including automobiles and electronics. Stationary manipulators used in factories have become the largest market for robots. In 2006, there were an estimated 3,540,000 service robots in use, and an estimated 950,000 industrial robots. [35] A different estimate counted more than one million robots in operation worldwide in the first half of 2008, with roughly half in Asia, 32% in Europe, 16% in North America, 1% in Australasia and 1% in Africa.[36]

Some examples of factory robots:

* Car production: Over the last three decades automobile factories have become dominated by robots. A typical factory contains hundreds of industrial robots working on fully automated production lines, with one robot for every ten human workers. On an automated production line, a vehicle chassis on a conveyor is welded, glued, painted and finally assembled at a sequence of robot stations.
* Packaging: Industrial robots are also used extensively for palletizing and packaging of manufactured goods, for example for rapidly taking drink cartons from the end of a conveyor belt and placing them into boxes, or for loading and unloading machining centers.
* Electronics: Mass-produced printed circuit boards (PCBs) are almost exclusively manufactured by pick-and-place robots, typically with SCARA manipulators, which remove tiny electronic components from strips or trays, and place them on to PCBs with great accuracy.[37] Such robots can place hundreds of thousands of components per hour, far out-performing a human in speed, accuracy, and reliability.[38]

Automated guided vehicle carrying medical supplies and records

* Automated guided vehicles (AGVs): Mobile robots, following markers or wires in the floor, or using vision[39] or lasers, are used to transport goods around large facilities, such as warehouses, container ports, or hospitals.[40]

*
o Early AGV-Style Robots were limited to tasks that could be accurately defined and had to be performed the same way every time. Very little feedback or intelligence was required, and the robots needed only the most basic exteroceptors (sensors). The limitations of these AGVs are that their paths are not easily altered and they cannot alter their paths if obstacles block them. If one AGV breaks down, it may stop the entire operation.

*
o Interim AGV-Technologies developed that deploy triangulation from beacons or bar code grids for scanning on the floor or ceiling. In most factories, triangulation systems tend to require moderate to high maintenance, such as daily cleaning of all beacons or bar codes. Also, if a tall pallet or large vehicle blocks beacons or a bar code is marred, AGVs may become lost. Often such AGVs are designed to be used in human-free environments.

*
o Newer AGVs such as the Speci-Minder,[41] ADAM, [42] Tug[43] and PatrolBot Gofer[44] are designed for people-friendly workspaces. They navigate by recognizing natural features. 3D scanners or other means of sensing the environment in two or three dimensions help to eliminate cumulative errors in dead-reckoning calculations of the AGV's current position. Some AGVs can create maps of their environment using scanning lasers with simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) and use those maps to navigate in real time with other path planning and obstacle avoidance algorithms. They are able to operate in complex environments and perform non-repetitive and non-sequential tasks such as transporting photomasks in a semiconductor lab, specimens in hospitals and goods in warehouses. For dynamic areas, such as warehouses full of pallets, AGVs require additional strategies. Only a few vision-augmented systems currently claim to be able to navigate reliably in such environments.

[edit] Dirty, dangerous, dull or inaccessible tasks
A U.S. Marine Corps technician prepares to use a telerobot to detonate a buried improvised explosive device near Camp Fallujah, Iraq

There are many jobs which humans would rather leave to robots. The job may be boring, such as domestic cleaning, or dangerous, such as exploring inside a volcano.[45] Other jobs are physically inaccessible, such as exploring another planet,[46] cleaning the inside of a long pipe, or performing laparoscopic surgery.[47]

* Telerobots: When a human cannot be present on site to perform a job because

Answer
Generally you want a wacom tablet, and if you want to be a completist, a scanner, a light table with register bars (which you can build yourself for about $40 or buy for upwards of $500 -- yes I know that sounds outrageous but that's how it is) a mac (I'll get back to that) the paid version of Adobe Flash and Photoshop or GIMP.

I actually don't recommend GIMP usually, which would be surprising. When doing the Graphic arts, though, you want the best tool for the job. The GIMP falls down on Commercial Printing, period. That's quite enough for me. You want a Macintosh -- not a hackintosh -- because it is a hardware/software combination which is optimized for presentation graphics. I like to say it is never a bargain but often a value.

Windows machines are built by independent manufacturers who do not coordinate in making them fine-tuned to any one purpose. They are consumer machines. As a consumer operating system Windows is by far the largest and most memory-intensive OS there is. This means less memory is available for graphics and animation programs, and those are precisely programs which need the most memory.

A cheap alternative is Linux, and I will get to that -- it is not optimal generally and the best linux alternative is not optimal period. You scan or create the pictures you want to animate into the computer. Again, Photoshop or GIMP both of which are paint Programs/Raster Editors/Bitmap Editors are the best choices for processing your files. Save them to a directory then use a program, again, the paid version of Flash is what secretagentbob uses for his wonderful Charlie the Unicorn Youtube videos, assemble them into a movie. As te Gimp is a free version of Photoshop, available for any platform, so there is a movie maker called Avidemux which is free for any platform:

http://fixounet.free.fr/avidemux/

There is also an animation program called Synfig. DO NOT use it. Or rather don't even try since you will most assuredly fail if you do.

Blender does 3D animation:
http://www.blender.org

You would still need to use gimp or photoshop. Two movies made with it, Elephants Dream and Big Buck Bunny have their own web pages with details:

http://www.bigbuckbunny.org
http://www.elephantsdream.org

Read them as well as look at them.

Now, for Linux alternatives. The best, as I said, is sub-optimal. It is a live cd with avidemux, and command line alternatives like mencoder and ffmpeg as well as the Gimp (and even Synfig) installed. There are other live cds but they use more of your memory and it is not as easy to write to disk with them. I am talking about a disk called dyne:bolic:

http://www.dynebolic.org

It was created by an Italian Rastafarian living in Amsterdam. Yes, I am thinking about that pungent sweet/sour smoke as well. In fact sometimes I think the man's judgement is affected by it. You cannot always get sound working on it, and to access the internet you sometimes have to open a terminal and type "dhclient eth0". He recommends a method of installing it to disk -- which I've never seen work and I'm not sure I would want to, and the default user is root -- and there is an old joke around us habitual Linux users that if you surf the net as root you might as well be running Windoze because Windows browsers tend to have permission to write files anywhere by default while *nix browsers don't. You will find your hard drive is available through the directory /mnt/hd1/1. Once you can get used to all these Unix/Gnu/Linux things, you will find that you can boot up, work with the programs without installing them, save your creations to /mnt/hd1/1 and reboot, after which all you will have of the experience is the files you created -- on your default Widows system. But even though I prefer Linux generally for this I have to go back where I started: if you are serious, get a Mac.

What is Illusion of Depth??????!!!!!!!!?

poopstains

i just need the definition!!!!!!

Answer
Stereopsis (from stereo meaning solidity, and opsis meaning vision or sight) is the process in visual perception leading to perception of stereoscopic depth. In turn, stereoscopic depth is the sensation of depth that emerges from the fusion of the two slightly different projections of the world on the two retinas. The difference between the two eyes' images, which is a result of the eyes' horizontal separation, is usually referred to as binocular disparity or retinal disparity. The fact that this binocular disparity is interpreted by the brain as depth was first discovered by Charles Wheatstone, a British scientist, and described by him in a classic paper[1] published in 1838: â⦠the mind perceives an object of three-dimensions by means of the two dissimilar pictures projected by it on the two retinæâ¦â, (Wheatstone, 1838). To prove his ideas, Wheatstone invented a simple device which he dubbed a stereoscope. Using his newly invented stereoscope Wheatstone was able to convincingly show that a vivid sense of depth emerges from two completely flat pictures depicting two different projections of the same scene.

or

Stereoscopy, stereoscopic imaging or 3-D (three-dimensional) imaging is any technique capable of recording three-dimensional visual information or creating the illusion of depth in an image. The illusion of depth in a photograph, movie, or other two-dimensional image is created by presenting a slightly different image to each eye. Many 3D displays use this method to convey images. It was first invented by Sir Charles Wheatstone in 1840.[1] Stereoscopy is used in photogrammetry and also for entertainment through the production of stereograms. Stereoscopy is useful in viewing images rendered from large multi-dimensional data sets such as are produced by experimental data. Modern industrial three dimensional photography may use 3D scanners to detect and record 3 dimensional information. The three-dimensional depth information can be reconstructed from two images using a computer by corresponding the pixels in the left and right images. Solving the Correspondence problem in the field of Computer Vision aims to create meaningful depth information from two images.

Traditional stereoscopic photography consists of creating a 3-D illusion starting from a pair of 2-D images. The easiest way to create depth perception in the brain is to provide the eyes of the viewer with two different images, representing two perspectives of the same object, with a minor deviation similar to the perspectives that both eyes naturally receive in binocular vision. If eyestrain and distortion are to be avoided, each of the two 2-D images preferably should be presented to each eye of the viewer so that any object at infinite distance seen by the viewer should be perceived by that eye while it is oriented straight ahead, the viewer's eyes being neither crossed nor diverging. When the picture contains no object at infinite distance, such as a horizon or a cloud, the pictures should be spaced correspondingly closer together.

Can anyone tell me how easy is it to change over to linux and get drivers for printers , scanners and video di

deeva4444

Thank you all for your good advice and the links you provided for me you were all very helpful and gave me some new knowledge thanks again much apreciated

Answer
The first place is to research the hardware you have to make sure it is supported under Linux and specifically under the distribution you are interested in running. The simplest way is to get a "LiveCD" which lets you try Linux without modifying your existing operating system. While this method is slower since it works only from memory and CD, it lets you try the different distros until you find one you are comfortable with.

I highly recommend finding a book to help you learn Linux (either from a public library or purchased) since it will allow you to read along as you perform the various tasks without needing your computer to view online documents. This is especially helpful during the installation steps.

Printers from major brands (HP, Epson, etc) have good support under Linux (http://linuxprinting.org)

Scanners are hit and miss, although a new scanner is cheaper than an upgrade of Windows these days.

Just about all video cards are supported using a fallback driver (vesa.) 3d acceleration is available for major cards such as Nvidia and ATI using the proprietary drivers from those manufacturer's websites.

Now you know that you must know that each "sublevel"(i.e. s, p, d, f) has a certain number of orbital:
s = 1
p = 3
d = 5
f = 7

Good luck!

Here's also a website for you to read and review there seems to be some examples at the bottom. http://www.fordhamprep.org/gcurran/sho/sho/lessons/lesson36.htm

some art can be done with pen and markers as well, then uploaded to computer, for digital art, you can use various brands of tablets, and several drawing and painting programs,

also some art can be designed in 3d programs, then repainted in other paint programs, also possible to render 3d image with game engines, and incorporate into other editors,

How are 2D cartoons animated today?

Captain Ca

I understand how 3D images are made, they generate models and send them through animations. However, how do they do 2D cartoons? I asume they don't draw each individual frame anymore. But, backgrounds that don't move do appear to be hand-drawn in some shows. How do 2D cartoons go through animations?

Answer
Depending on the budget, deadlines, technology, experience and preference that 2D animations are made one way or another.

Small budgeted shows, destined for the weekly TV slots are mostly done on Flash these days. Characters are created from simple shapes with movable body parts (mouths, hands etc.) are pasted onto individual layers and animated individually or in concert with the other parts.

The good thing about Flash is that you can position key drawings (important, story-telling character poses of say, a hand) out and the computer will fill in the in-between drawings (all the other drawings between the key drawings to smooth out the movements) automatically. So you can position the hand at one location (a key), and then program the computer to move it to another location (another key) and it will fill in all the in-between drawings by itself (timing is done by the animator). Computers are only good at moving objects around perfectly and stretching/squashing them according to preset rules so you are limited to certain expressions. Of course, complex scenes still need to be animated by hand, but to keep the cost and the time consumed down, animators don't get to do them frequently, if at all.

You can recognize these shows by the extremely smooth movements exhibited by the characters, as well as the bold and uniformed outlines and colors throughout. Backgrounds can be painted by hand, either digitally or on papers( and then scanned into the computer), or created from bodies of static shapes and colors.

Bigger, movie-length animated films use specialized softwares, either developed in-house, or bought commercially like the Toon Boom Animation program. These, however, are almost completely hand-drawn (characters-wise), since you can only create good character animation when you have a feel of the lines and forms of the characters, a thing that is quite difficult to program on a computer.

Some studios use papers and scanners, some use graphic tablets like the Wacoms to imput drawings into their computers. Some parts of a character can be animated while others are put on a different layer and remain static.

You can recognize these films by the slight jittery outlines of the character when he/she/it moves, since each line was drawn to match up with the previous drawings', though never perfectly so, no matter how hard the animators tried. The backgrounds are usually painted by hand (either digitally or manually on papers), or in 3D models that mimic a particular style or both.

Having said all that, yes, most animated shows are still drawn by hand. Some are done on papers and scanners, some are done on computers with Wacom tablets, some combine both in the production process. 2D animation is a craft, and unless computers can draw imaginatively, animators will still have their jobs, drawing them lovingly frame by frame. I hope that helped.

hey guys, Can please somebody help me how can I make my own animation movie.

Answer
There's some ways to approach this:
you can download either Monkey Jam for 2D animations (http://www.giantscreamingrobotmonkeys.com/monkeyjam/)
or
Blender for 3D animations (http://www.blender.org)
both free and easy to find.
There are others but these are the pick of the free litter.

**If you like to animate and would want to continue, you should invest in a Wacom Tablet (at least 6" x 8").

Or if you want to go old school...
1. You can also buy paper (print paper easiest to find)
2. Draw it frame by frame
3. Scan them into a computer or record them with a camera then recording that onto the VHS (If you use a camera, then stop here).
4. Import the scans into QuickTime as a sequence
5. Then export it as a QuickTime movie
6. Import the movie into iMovie or Windows Movie Maker 7. For sounds (www.sounddogs.com).
8. Export the movie as a another QuickTime movie

**These may not be the best things to use, but it can get the job done.

**Doing it old school would require
-Field Guide (You can draw one yourself): How much space your animation will take and make sure not to exceed that space

-Light Box $40: Drawing it frame by frame with this box will keep your animations from going out of proportion.

-Peg Bar $3: Place it taped onto the light box. Keeping your animations from moving all over the place unintentionally. If you are going to scan them onto the computer, then I suggest you place the peg bar TAPED onto the scanner.

how can i make my own animated card for christmas by internet?

sos1

i wanna make a very nice card for my fiance who is so far from me now. i wanna make him happy... can you suggest an easy way for me to do this?

Answer
Just check out anigreetings.com. Its ecards are actually 3d animated short films and your personalization goes into the animation, as opposed to traditional ecards where your message is shown separately from the context (animation or still image) of the ecard. It's great for those who are looking for serious alternatives as their ecards can be downloaded (with your message within) & played in Quicktime, Media Player & the like.

Another cool thing it has is that u can upload an image of your drawing or calligraph (i.e. in black over a bright white background) and it'll blend your drawing with your typed message nicely into the animation. In other words u can customize the animation entirely with a scan or photo of your handwriting. There're some tricks though: You must make sure the background of the image is truely bright white, as it's likely that the background isn't white enough for image captured by your scanner or digital camera even though you write on a white paper.

To do so, u must feed the image into a photo editor (I personally use the free GIMP), enhance the contrast of the image until the background becomes bright white and save it. Then upload the manipulated version. You'll probably need to preview the customization, fine tune & re-upload your image several times until you find it satisfactory. It sounds a bit complicated. But it's worth a try especially you're doing it for one of your most important persons in life. I'm sure he'll be very impressed when he sees your organic handwritten greeting message in an animation. Both you & him can save the animation & keep your hard work. Think about it.

But if this handwriting idea is too much for u. I think even the normal "typewriting" version should be enough to impress him...

Hope it helps.

How to get out of a commission on deviantart?

3d scanner for cad image

Lyra

I accidentally got into a commission with someone on deviant art.
Now I'll be truthful with you: i am not a artist. I don't even have a scanner. The only reason I'm on that website is to find covers.
You may ask: why not tell the guy it was a mistake, and I hadn't meant to take the commission?
Well... he's suicidal.
Plus, the comish. involves bondage and BDSM, something I'm not exactly comfortable with.
Any help?

Answer
It is a matter of business law that when an offer is made, and someone has accepted the offer, the offerer is required to perform the offer.

In spite his being suicidal you must tell him it is a mistake and you lack the skills to perform the commission. If you have been paid anything you must return it asap.

Both you will be better off if you do this now rather than have him find out later you are unable to do it.

If you have an interest in making your own imagery for your covers there is free open source software for this. Photo-realistic 3D avatars can be made with software from:
http://www.makehuman.org/
The avatars can be put in 3D scenery and clothing made with:
http://www.blender.org/
This CAD software can also make objects in a more precise way which can be imported into Blender:
http://www.freecadweb.org/

Blender will have a steep learning curve, but it is well rewarding to learn it.

Isaac F

Im getting a MAC very soon and I wanted to know what I need software wise to help me out? I will be using a good camera and a good scanner to catch my comic shots. Anyone know any good programs for mac or any hardware to help me out?

Answer
There are any number of ways you can make a comic strip, from drawing it entirely with a pen or pencil on folded pieces of paper, to drawing it and then scanning and doing clean-up digitally, or doing the entire thing digitally. You can use any tools to string together sequential images in any way to make a comic. There are no rules, there are no limits.

If you're really interested in making a comic, you should definitely buy or take a trip to the library to take out Scott McCloud's "Making Comics." It's a great book and sequel to his "Understanding Comics" which not only goes over some of the tools and techniques of making comics, but deconstructs the concepts, theories, standards and practices of visual storytelling.

Best part is, the book about comics is a comic book itself!

http://www.kk.org/cooltools/archives/001441.php

Also, any Digital imaging suite like Adobe Photoshop can be used to make comics. Some free alternatives are Paint.NET and Gimp or Gimpshop.

http://www.getpaint.net/

http://www.gimpshop.com/

Kazu Kibuishi has a step-by-step tutorial on how he makes his webcomic, "Copper," on this site:

http://www.boltcity.com/workshop/copper_tutorial/

There are also some programs you can use that try to help making comics easier. Manga Studio is a popular choice for black and white comics. However, it's pretty pricey.

There's also TokyoPop's Manga Creator:

It's much much cheaper than Manga Studio, and easier to use. The dowside is that it has less features. It's up to you what you'd want to spring for.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/tokyopop-manga-creator-2

There's also Comic Book Creator 2, which is fairly cheap. Which usually means, easy to use but low on advanced features:

http://www.myplanetwide.com/products/detail/description.html?id=41

It's up to you to find out exactly what these programs can do and decide whether it's worth paying for that extra functionality.

If you're on a Mac, there's Comics Life. It should already be on your Mac, I think. If it's not, you can download a demo here:

How far is the automated 3-D segmentation of Brain MRI efficient compared to manual segmentation?

3d scanner body

3d scanner body image

Sandhya

We are doing a project on automated 3-D segmentation of brain MRI using MATLAB. We would like to know the extent to which "Surf" commands are efficient in producing reliable segmented 3-D image. The accuracy level, how much it is better compared to manual segmentation. We need statistical detail, kindly help us....

Answer
This correspondence deals with the development of an
automated 3-D segmentation of Brain MRI. The proposal is a
model-based approach for accurate, robust, and automated
tissue segmentation of brain MRI data of single as well as
multiple magnetic resonance sequences. The main contribution
of this study is that we employ an edge-based geodesic active
contour for the segmentation task by integrating both image
edge geometry and voxel statistical homogeneity into a novel
hybrid geometricâstatistical feature to regularize contour
convergence and extract complex anatomical structures. We
validate the accuracy of the segmentation results on simulated
brain MRI scans of both single T1-weighted and multiple T1/
T2/PD-weighted sequences. When compared to a current stateof-
the-art region based level-set segmentation formulation,
our white matter and gray matter segmentation resulted in
significantly higher accuracy levels with a mean improvement
in Dice similarity indexes. Thus the development of the project
is done using MATLAB simulation for results.
A Hybrid Automated 3D Segmentation in Brain MRI -------------------------------------------------------- Advantages of a MRI scan
⢠MRI scanners are good at looking at the non-bony parts
or "soft tissues" of the body. In particular, the brain, spinal
cord and nerves are seen much more clearly with MRI
than with regular x-rays and CAT scans.
⢠Also, muscles, ligaments and tendons are seen quite well
so that MRI scans are commonly used to look at knees
and shoulders following injuries.
⢠A MRI scanner uses no x-rays or other radiation.
⢠A disadvantage of MRI is itâs higher cost compared to a
regular x-ray or CAT scan. Also, CAT scans are frequently
better at looking at the bones that MRI.

What is the difference between a pet scan and a cat scan?

Sweetask

no obnoxious answers please I want a serious answer.

Answer
a cat (computerized axial tomography) scan gives a 3D image of the body by looking at horizontal "slices" of the body- so the organs can be viewed as they are spatially. It is a fancy version of a plain x-ray that just shows a view from one angle- everything on top of the other. A pet scan is different primarily in that it gives information about function, not just form. A solution of glucose molecules that have been "tagged" with a radioactive marker is injected into the patient through a vein. The glucose goes first and foremost to "sugar hungry" locations- for example the brain, or any malignancy that might be present in the body. The scanner then just scans for the location of concentrations of radioactivity and forms the image of the organs in this way. All pet scanners are not created equal- look for the best and probably the newest one in your area- some have more "rings"- and produce better, clearer images.Hope this helps a little.

Help with VB6 to VB.NET conversion!?

RjSowden

I'm asking this because I don't know anything about VB6 (It was around before I was born), and theirs no point in me having to spend 6 weeks learning all the functions ect... when their are others with a much better understanding who will get it right first time.

I need to convert this code :

Close #1

'LASER LINE PREVIEW BOX- Draws each vertex with a red dot.
Picture2.PSet (myx, myy), RGB(255, 0, 0)
Next

End Sub

...Into VB.NET So I can tweak it and put it into my own application. I got it from text right off the internet, so I cant try to import it into .NET and let that convert it for me, because I cant save it. Thanks to everyone who can give advice, and I'll definitely give out a best answer. Thanks so much again in advance!
I do know that the Timer class doe's need a handler. I know VB.NET well. Picture3 defines a picture box control

Answer
It looks like either your code is not complete or there is a reference library that you're going to need for this.

Form1.Picture3 = LoadPicture("D:\Colin Ord\3d scanner\3D Scanner RT 2009\rgb.jpg")

LoadPicture is not defined anywhere in the code you posted. There is also nothing listed here to make the Timer1_Timer sub run.

You're going to have to find the missing parts to this project if you want to use it as written. Otherwise you're going to have to disect it pulling out bits & pieces to make it work for you.
