what are the best web design universities/colleges in USA? MAX!?

Michael

I would to become a web designer (graphic and coding) and what are the best universities/colleges for this in USA? with a BFA degree...

MAX!!?

Answer
In the USA, I recommend the following:

Pratt Institute, New York, NY;
Cranbrook Academy of Art, Bloomfield Hills, MI;
Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, CA;
California College of the Arts, San Francisco, CA;
University of California Los Angeles (UCLA), Los Angeles, CA;
Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, RI;
Otis College of Art and Design, Pasadena, CA;
Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA; and
Virginia Commonwealth University, Richmond, VA

Although I urge that you explore all of the above, I am more familiar with the following; and, thus, I have provided a bit of information.

*Art Center College of Design
1700 Lida Street
Pasadena, CA 91103
(626) 396-2373

The college offers programs leading to the BFA and BS Degrees, as well as graduate degrees. Its GRAPHIC DESIGN design program is first-rate and it includes excellent academic and technical offerings. For the increasingly computer-literate students who enter the Art Center, the idea of leadership is key. As the college notes, "these young designers will have opportunities to shape the development of a medium that is only beginning to fulfill its promise."
Please see:
http://www.artcenter.edu/accd/programs/u...

*Otis College of Art and Design
9045 Lincoln Boulevard
Los Angeles, CA 90045
(310) 665-6820

Otis College of Art and Design has a four year Bachelor of Fine Arts program that offers majors in seven areas: Communication Arts, DIGITAL MEDIA, Architecture/Landscape/Interiors, Fashion Design, Fine Arts, Interactive Product Design and Toy Design. The cornerstone of the Otis program is the first year curriculum, which is called Foundation. Students from all majors take the core studio classes: drawing and composition, figure drawing, two and three dimensional design. In these integrated classes students build the art, design and creative skills and vocabulary that are the "foundation" of their subsequent studies and future work. Students enter their sophomore year well prepared to begin work in their major.

It has an excellent DIGITAL MEDIA program the primary goal of which is to strike a balance between traditional art and technology, and between individual vision and teamwork. By providing a fundamental understanding of digital tools and their creative applications, the department prepares graduates to meet the demands of a diverse and expanding job market. Leading designers for visual effects, Web, film, television, broadcast media, advertising, and video gaming guide the students.
Please see:
http://www.otis.edu/academics/index.html
http://www.otis.edu/academics/digital_me...

*University of California Los Angeles (UCLA)
405 Hilgard Avenue
Los Angeles, CA 90095
(310) 825-3101

The UCLA School of the Arts and Architecture has a world-class
Department of DESIGN AND MEDIA ARTS. The School and Department take pride in educating responsible designers and artists for the information age by teaching the fundamentals of Design, Media, and the Arts, and encouraging experimentation and innovation. The Department provides an extensive education in Design and Media Arts practice, history and criticism; and it fosters a critical and creative exploration of emerging forms of visual communication, typography, interaction and interface design, ubiquitous computing, virtual environments, information spaces, networked agents and other pertinent areas of research.

Housed in the remarkable Broad Art Center, its facilities include the DMA Labs. These facilities feature high-end Windows and Macintosh computers; various peripherals, such as scanners, laser printers, and large-format Epson plotters; CD and DVD burners; and film recorders and digital video cameras. The Labs also provide access to a large library of graphics software in the areas of digital photography, illustration, interactive media, and 3D-modeling and animation. In addition to the main labs, the facilities include studio space for graduates and undergraduates, several faculty research labs, a blue screen room, a video facility supporting analog and nonlinear digital editing, audio mixing, and video capture, and two digital audio facilities. Wireless access is available to laptop users, and all the computers in the facilities are connected to the campus network, giving students individual access to DMA network resources and the Internet.

Sony Vaio or HP Pavilion?

3d scanner price list
on FaceID Facial Recognition Security Scanner
3d scanner price list image

Chris

Im looking for a laptop and have narrowed it down to these 2.

HP - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/HP+-+Pavilion+Laptop+/+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B+i3+Processor+/+15.6%22+Display+/+4GB+Memory+/+500GB+Hard+Drive+-+Aluminum/1678129.p?id=1218279852178&skuId=1678129

Sony - http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olstemplatemapper.jsp?id=1218297521474&type=product

At my local Bestbuy they are both 600$ and have same memory but now i guess i have to decide to go HP or Sony

What i like about the sony is that its made fom Sony good quality

What i like the HP is the finger scanner and the fact i own an HP right now

So which is the better choice?

Thanks

Answer
Both computers have 4GB RAM but Sony's Core i-3 380M is .30GHz faster than the HP's Core i-3 350M. Both laptops only has Intel HD Graphics which is like free that's why it's integrated, so don't expect it to live up for game playing.
Core i-3, better than Core 2 Duo
Core i-5, better than Core i-3 in interactive social networking & creating home videos
Core i-7, better than Core i-5 in designing your own website

Just remember these: The 1st thing you should look for on the computer surface is A LOGO STICKER for NVIDIA or ATI MOBILITY RADEON just below the keyboard. This SHOWS that the laptop has A DEDICATED GRAPHICS CARD (for AutoCAD & Adobe Photoshop). Diablo III, the game I would love most to play runs on 3D graphics & is rumored to need at least 1GB GRAPHICS MEMORY (lower graphics memory = CHEAPER laptop price), so always check the system requirement specs on the game's box (ex. SIMS 3; see if your laptop meets all the requirements). For gamers, double check from the list on this link, make sure the GRAPHICS CARD you get on the laptop IS ONLY from the HIGH END or MIDRANGE listed.
Next important aspect is the RAM (memory). If you're in designing & you need to run applications like AutoCAD or softwares for editing photos and videos, you have to make sure that the laptop has AT LEAST 2GB DDR2 RAM modules in it (HIGHER IS BETTER; DDR3 & DDR5 are faster & newer types of memory modules that came out).
But what makes a computer really run fast? It is it's processor! So if you really want your processor to have computing prowess & you're able to run different applications simultaneously, make sure it's AS EFFICIENT AS an Intel Core 2 Duo Processor (Centrino 2 is a Core 2 Duo featuring power saving capabilities; Quad Core is for gaming fanatics). A Core 2 Duo is like having 2 motors running the computer each independent of the other w/c means for a Quad Core, it's like 4 motors are running the machine (that means it will run faster & more efficient even if its frequency is lower to that of a Core 2 Duo). Intel: Core 2 Duo, Centrino 2, Quad Core, Core i-3, Core i-5 & Core i-7 are all very much faster & better than an Intel: DUAL CORE, PENTIUM, CELERON, ATOM & their more affordable AMD counterparts. Just make sure you have AT LEAST 2GHz of speed on your processor.
The HDD (Hard Disc Drive) should be at least 320GB.

Are you looking for an affordable, not so big, yet best in performance gaming laptop like me? Look no further, the msi GT680R-15.6" full HD Gaming Notebook which comes with the 2nd Generation Core i7 Processor 2630QM, 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB Hard Disk Drive (2x 500GB 7200rpm SATA HDD) & a powerful Class 1, NVIDIA GTX460M 1.5GB DDR5 dedicated graphics card that can handle DirectX 11 enhancing the 3D detail effects from FRYS.com (SKU#: 6547393). I was free for the day so I hung around the store and got to use it first hand. I came back to check out the laptop every hour for 6 hrs and found out that the air from the vent of the laptop remained cool compared to any other laptop on display there, stating power and proper heat management, w/c means this laptop can handle long hours of gruelling play.
Now, I'm all stewed up saving to buy this b4 Blizzard releases Diablo 3.
Are you a game enthusiasts playing for long hours? You need a notebook cooler. I have a Cooler Master U2 Notebook Cooler w/c has dual purposes. Detach the easily detacheable dual fan, & you can use the aluminum frame as a protection for your laptop's LCD screen when inside the bag. I got mine from MicroCenter.com for 48% cheaper than the regular $24.99 tag (FRYS.com SKU#: 6344931).

If you're a little bit low on budget, get the next best thing. The msi GE620-021 15.6" Gaming Notebook also featuring a 2nd Generation Intel Core i7 Processor 2630QM & 8GB DDR3 RAM, just 640GB HDD, but with only a Class 2, NVIDIA GT540M 1GB dedicated graphics card that can also handle DirectX 11 effects from FRYS.com (SKU#: 6539123).
The ASUS N53SV-XR1 for $949.99 sounds 150dollars cheaper, but comes with only 4GB of memory.

FOR the best PRICEs, go to Fry's Electronics, MicroCenter, CostCo & BestBuy's web sites for updates & COMPARISON.
This MSI GT680R 15.6" Gaming Notebook w/ the Intel® Core⢠i-7 retails for $1,499.99 (+ tax & other sur-charges). I chose to pay more to have the newest technology so that I DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT IT GETTING OUTDATED WITHIN THE NEXT 11 YRS.

FYI: I always tell my customers, a laptop's battery is similar to a cell phone's. You charge it when it's depleted & you unplug the adapter when it is already fully charge (this will prevent the battery from getting overcharged & extend the life of the battery). So for less hassle, I always advice my customers to just remove the battery if they plan to use the computer for long hours straight (more than 1 hour) and just run it on AC power alone so as not to overcharge it & shorten the battery life.

How far is the automated 3-D segmentation of Brain MRI efficient compared to manual segmentation?

3d x ray scanner
on The Brilliance CT machine provides stunning three-dimensional images ...
3d x ray scanner image

Sandhya

We are doing a project on automated 3-D segmentation of brain MRI using MATLAB. We would like to know the extent to which "Surf" commands are efficient in producing reliable segmented 3-D image. The accuracy level, how much it is better compared to manual segmentation. We need statistical detail, kindly help us....

Answer
This correspondence deals with the development of an
automated 3-D segmentation of Brain MRI. The proposal is a
model-based approach for accurate, robust, and automated
tissue segmentation of brain MRI data of single as well as
multiple magnetic resonance sequences. The main contribution
of this study is that we employ an edge-based geodesic active
contour for the segmentation task by integrating both image
edge geometry and voxel statistical homogeneity into a novel
hybrid geometricâstatistical feature to regularize contour
convergence and extract complex anatomical structures. We
validate the accuracy of the segmentation results on simulated
brain MRI scans of both single T1-weighted and multiple T1/
T2/PD-weighted sequences. When compared to a current stateof-
the-art region based level-set segmentation formulation,
our white matter and gray matter segmentation resulted in
significantly higher accuracy levels with a mean improvement
in Dice similarity indexes. Thus the development of the project
is done using MATLAB simulation for results.
A Hybrid Automated 3D Segmentation in Brain MRI -------------------------------------------------------- Advantages of a MRI scan
⢠MRI scanners are good at looking at the non-bony parts
or "soft tissues" of the body. In particular, the brain, spinal
cord and nerves are seen much more clearly with MRI
than with regular x-rays and CAT scans.
⢠Also, muscles, ligaments and tendons are seen quite well
so that MRI scans are commonly used to look at knees
and shoulders following injuries.
⢠A MRI scanner uses no x-rays or other radiation.
⢠A disadvantage of MRI is itâs higher cost compared to a
regular x-ray or CAT scan. Also, CAT scans are frequently
better at looking at the bones that MRI.

What is the likeliness of getting a gau-19?

3d scanner for reverse engineering
on The perfect solution for fast, accurate parts manufacture
3d scanner for reverse engineering image

John

Like how much $$$ would one need to order the d*mn thing?
How hard it is to aquire one in the first place?
And what kind of federal license would you need to have to own it?
Lastly, what process would need to be carried out to aquire this license?

I'm guessing a kind of military license, $5,000, and a due process to order, ship, and receive as well as shipping payment. General Dynamics doesn't just hand out Gau-19s to just anyone, although that would be pretty convenient. And i'm guessing extensive training (military) and testing to aquire this particular license. I'm also guessing that from its little popularity and being widely unkown that it may be easier than i think, still difficult, but easier to aquire than that of an m134.

below, I get a little off here, so read if you please but you don't have to cause it's not part of my question, just some facts and links, i'd rather have my questions answered.

My reasons for wanting to aquire this weapon is for a last defense for when the tyranny of our government reaches to the point of an absolute dictatorship and we merge into the rest of the worlds
revolution in the act to rebuild nations, that this will help defend myself and my family, an ar-15 won't cut it. Also, because of its 3 barrels and ability to change the R.O.F. of the weapon, can help preserve ammo than its 6 barreled counterpart (m134), and speaking of ammo, it has a larger round than its counterpart making the gau-19 (50-BMG) better than the m134 (7.62 x 51). And although the .50 is more expensive than the other, because of the lower fire rate of the gau-19, in the long run, i save, cause its the m134's 5,000 rpm Vs. the gau-19's 1,000 rpm rate (or selectable 1,250 rpm, 1,300 rpm, and 2,000 rpm). So as you can see here, my reasons are very good reasons. My final reason is because, admit it, it's an awesome weapon, the machine in my favorite game series Halo for the XBox is modeled after the gau-19.

gau-19 is the 4th one down

Answer
It might be possible to purchase one from a foreign military entity. You can buy MIG-29 fighter jets from former soviet republic air forces. Some are for sale for around 5 million dollars. You might not be able to get a GAU-19 since they do not just sell them to anyone. If you are really that determined to get one you could use 3d scanners to help reverse engineer the GAU-19 in 50 caliber and produce one for yourself. If in the end with all of the legal paperwork ,and tax stamps you can have a fully automatic GAU-19. If you cannot get your hands on a GAU-19 you could make something similar that could do the same job ,but reverse engineering an GAU-19 is probably your best bet since you probably will not be able to get one imported or purchase one from general dynamics. Remember you will have to get the proper manufacturing licenses from the ATF.

What can I do to speed up my computer?

d t

I've tried countless ways to speed up my laptop:
1. I downloaded CCleaner and Auslogics to clean, fix, and defragment my registry. I also use CCleaner to clean up the unnecessary files on my computer.

2. I use Windows Disk Cleanup occasionally (probably once every 1-2 weeks). I use Windows Disk Defragment around once a week. I do a disk checkup around once every 2-3 weeks.

3. I always download Windows Updates (manually).

4. I disable a few services and programs that I think is unnecessary to boot on start-up.
(I have 3 programs on start-up atm: ESET smart security, Alps touch pad, microsoft intellipoint)
What are some common services that are unnecessary to automatically startup?

5. I uninstall programs that I no longer use. Speaking of which, here are the programs that I do have:
A. abbyy finereader sprint (used for my printer)
B. Adobe flash player plugin
C. Adobe shockwave player
D. AIM
E. Alps Touch pad driver
F. iTunes bundle (apple app. support, mobile device support, bonjour, quicktime, etc.)
G. Auslogics Registry Defrag
H. Broadcom Wireless LAN adapter
I. Ccleaner
J. Dell printer
K. DivX setup
L. ENE CIR Receiver Driver
M. ESET smart security
N. Foxit Reader
O. HP programs (3d driveguard, webcam, quick launch buttons, support assistant, wireless assistant)
P. IDT Audio
Q. Intel (R) graphics media accelerator driver
R. Java
S. Jmicron Flash media controller driver
T. LSI HDA Modem
U. Microsoft stuff (Framework, office, visual C+, intellipoint, etc.)
V. Mozilla firefox
W. Realplayer
X. Spybot S&D
Y. Windows live essentials (just MSN)
Z. WinRAR archiver

6. I usually keep my power plan on "Balanced" as opposed to power saver.

7. I keep a fan under my laptop at all times to prevent heating.

8. I go to the control panel troubleshooters (improve power usage, maintenance, windows updates, performance issues) to find/fix any errors.

9. I scan my computer every once in a while and 99% of the time, I do not have a virus. I also use S&D's "immune" feature. I update ESET ss & spybot S&D every few days.

Last but not least, my specs are:
Windows 7 ultimate SP1
2.00 ghz
4 gb RAM
64-bit

^This is the list of things I do (there might be more that I can't think of atm).
However, my laptop still doesn't perform in the speed in which I'd prefer it to perform at.
It takes about 40-50 seconds to start up. It takes a very long time to finish disk defragment and disk cleanup (I think around ~30 minutes for cleanup, and ~70 minutes for disk defragment). It takes ~30 minutes to uninstall a light program.

So my question is: Is there anything else I can do to improve my laptop's performance?
I'm not sure how to identify the CPU & HDD speed. Can you tell me the procedure?

Answer
Having two different virus protection programs active at the same time can (and will) cause system slow down because both are running real time scanners at the same time. If your processor is only a 2.0 GHz processor, then you could very easily be maxing out your processor whenever you try to do anything. 4GB of RAM is average, but consider that Windows 7 utilizes 1.5GB of your RAM at any given time just to run. I try to max out on RAM whenever I can. If you haven't done so already, Run Msconfig (only if you consider yourself savvy though), and turn off all system start up processes. Restart your computer to see if it loads any faster. If it does, turn on a necessary startup program and retry the startup sequence until you find the program that is causing it to load excessively slowly.

What can I use to cast a mold from stone without hurting the stone?

disciple

I'm new to this, but does anyone know what medium I would use to make a mold from a stone. In other words, There is an old building with a beautiful design sculpted in to it. I want to copy this design. I know there is a material out there that I can press against the original design and make a mold of it and then cast the design in plaster. I just don't know what material I would use to do this without hurting the stone.... Help!!!

Answer
I think the sculpey or any clay will work. If you use normal clay, any residue left will dissolve in the next rain, just don't use brown clay on light stone... if you use water based clay you would have to cast your plaster into the mold while the clay is still wet.
As the clay won't be very stable just on its own, you should consider making a mother mold on top of that. That is a hard shell, which just gives support to the soft part of your mold so it doesn't deform. It depends on the size of what you want to copy if you need it. You could make the mothermold from plaster bandages, but don't put plaster directly on the stone.
Before you start, consider carefully the shape of what you want to copy and where undercuts are and where you have to put in parting lines. What technique you use for mold making really depends on the exact shape of what you want to copy. If the structure is something complicated, you may want to practice how to make molds from more simple structures first so you are aware what causes problems and get some experience in how to solve them.

Another completely contact free method is if you happen to be at a university where they have a 3D laser scanning camera you can borrow, you could use the 3D laser scanner then make a model of your structure in the computer from the scans. That you could print out using a 3D printer. that way you can scale the model to any size (though anything large will be expensive to print)

Think about how mobile our computing devices have become and the convergence of different devices?

Answer
Well, D-Wave's quantum computer is worth watching.

Personally, I don't see desktop computers becoming obsolete especially soon.

I mean, I'm typing this on a mechanical keyboard and I'm looking at a display on my desk. That's the same as I used in about 1972, except back then it was a Tektronics storage display connected to a CDC mainframe. It's a setup I'm comfortable with. I've used smartphones, and I've used projection walls but for editing documents this is better. Of course, that's just the human interface - whether the computer is a mainframe, cloud, under the desk or built into the keyboard is of less concern.

I can see voice recognition finally making the leap to actually working for everyone, regardless of background noise and your accent.

For hardware, if 3D printers take off, I can see 3D laser or ultrasound scanners becoming more common, and some medical diagnostics becoming more mainstream (again, perhaps ultrasound or MRI based)

What is the difference between a traditional CT Scanner and a Spiral CT Scanner?

I know that a spiral produces thinner slices and perhaps in more detail, I am not really sure? I would like to better understand the science behind it? Also, could you respond with some understanding of MRI and Doppler scans as well? Could you provide some of the history of the above mentioned diagnostic tests? Thank you.

Answer
Computed tomography (CT), originally known as computed axial tomography (CAT or CT scan) and body section roentgenography, is a medical imaging method employing tomography where digital geometry processing is used to generate a three-dimensional image of the internals of an object from a large series of two-dimensional X-ray images taken around a single axis of rotation. The word "tomography" is derived from the Greek tomos (slice) and graphia (to write). CT produces a volume of data which can be manipulated, through a process known as windowing, in order to demonstrate various structures based on their ability to block the X-ray beam. Although historically (see below) the images generated were in the axial or transverse plane (orthogonal to the long axis of the body), modern scanners allow this volume of data to be reformatted in various planes or even as volumetric (3D) representations of structures.

Spiral CT scanning is just a new and advanced from of CT scanning: This is a newer type of CT scan, also known as a 'helical' CT scan. It is faster than a standard CT scan and gives an even more detailed picture of your organs and tissues, including blood vessels. This can make it useful for picking up very small tumours. It's called a spiral scan because the X-ray beam rotates around you during the scan in a spiral shape. This gives the radiographers a continuous picture, with no possible gaps between the 'slices' of the scan.

What is an "MRI, CAT Scan, and X-Ray: and are any of these three that I mentioned damaging?

Liberachi

Hello. What is the difference between these three that I mentioned above and are any of these damaging to the body, if so how? Which one of these is less damaging and more damaging and why? Please explain. Thanks.

Answer
MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging. An MRI scan uses a strong magnetic field and radio waves to create pictures on a computer of tissues, organs and other structures inside your body. An MRI scan can create clear pictures of most parts of the body. So it is useful for all sorts of reasons where other tests (such as X-rays) do not give enough information required. It is commonly used to get detailed pictures of the brain and spinal cord, to detect abnormalities and tumours. Even torn ligaments around joints can be detected by an MRI scan. So, it is being used more and more following sports injuries. It is safe and painless.

CAT stands for Computerized Axial Tomography. The pictures are obtained by differences in X-ray absorption -compared with conventional xrays these differences are very small allowing different shades of grey and distinction between different tissues e.g. between fat and soft tissues and between brain and cerebrospinal fluid. The difference is that there is better details, it is quicker than MRI scan and most systems can be scanned from the brain to the leg. CAT scans are the most damaging, as there is a high radiation risk.

An x-ray (radiograph) involves exposing a part of the body to a small dose of ionizing radiation to produce pictures of the inside of the body. X-rays are the oldest and most frequently used form of medical imaging. Bone xrays are the fastest and easiest way to assess broken bones, no radiations remains in a patients body after examination and they usually have no side effects. Compared to other scans they provide no info on musles, tendons and joints. They are harmless and painless.

An MRI may be more useful in identifying ligament tears and joint effusions in knee or shoulder injuries and in imaging the spine, because both the bones and the spinal cord can be evaluated. MRI can also detect a bone bruise when no crack is visible on x-ray images.

CT is being used widely to assess trauma patients in emergency departments. A CT scan can image fractures of ribs, bones as well as of the spine and 3D images can be made when appropriate to help diagnosis and treatment of the individual patient's condition.

Hope this helps! :)

kindly tell step by step .
Sir but not like this ..

If you stick your head in a bucket of cement that should work.

Answer
How you get your face into the computer is either you model it (lot of work) or you have access to a 3D laser scanner. That is fairly easy, can however still be time consuming if you want to put a number of scans together. If there is a university where you live, check out their engineering or art department if they have one. If not forget about it, unless you happen to be really rich, it's going to be more expensive than a new car.

Before you start see that you know you have access to some way to print it or get it milled. Make sure you know the requirement for the mesh and make sure you have access to the appropriate programs which generate the correct mesh.

Unless you have access to everything (e.g. you are at university and it has the equipment) it will be faster and easier and cheaper if you do body casting and make a mold of your face. How to do this has been explained in this forum many times, there are websites and books, so you should have no problems finding it out if you are serious about it.

What do you think of Richard Linklater as a director?

Donny

Dazed and Confused is probably my third favorite comedy film of all time, but I have barely seen any of Linklater's other stuff besides The School of Rock and Bad News Bears

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000500/#Director

it looks like him and Ethan Hawke have collaborated a lot too. so which of his movies movies have you seen and would recommend, and also rate and rank his films

Answer
He's one of contemporary American cinema's more interesting voices.

Linklater is, of course, very associated with Austin, TX, similar to Robert Rodriguez. Both of whom exploded in popularity on the festival circuit around the same time, Linklater with Slacker and Rodriguez with El Mariachi, both microbudget films made by clearly skilled directors. It's interesting to compare their careers since... Rodriguez, while talented in certain respects, tends to live inside his own ass. Awful 3D movies based on his children's whims (see, or don't see: Sharkboy and Lavagirl, Shorts) are perhaps his nadir. Linklater is also indulgent, but in more interesting ways, and he always brings the audience into his obsessive dreams. Whether it's mainstream comedy (School of Rock), an animated head-trip (Waking Life, A Scanner Darkly), a period piece (Me and Orson Welles), etc., his films always feel distinctly Linklater-esque, yet are also always accessible. It's a neat trick, I think. His films also tend to convey big, even confrontational ideas in a low-key, appealing way, as if he's shouting a message without cinematically raising his voice. This is certainly true of the last five minutes of A Scanner Darkly.

His absolute best achievements, however, are Before Sunrise and Before Sunset. They're just...cinematic bliss, in my opinion. He, Ethan Hawke, and Julie Delpy created two indelible characters who feel very specific yet also completely universal. And he let these characters wander through beautiful European cities while having extended, free-flowing conversations about sex, life, art, politics, family, etc. It's almost mind-blowing how much depth he finds in such simple form. Before Sunrise is a perfect portrait of the romance and terror of being young, and Before Sunset is a gentle, yet incisive autopsy of middle-aged regret and the eternal question of whether it's ever too late. Just fucking fantastic movies, man. They feel so -alive-, and they sort of changed my life, at least as a writer and as a moviegoer.
