I know they've been around for over like at least 6 years... but I don't remember what they were called. Artists use them for movies and games.

Answer
Almost any new current laptop under $400 could run maple story. But if you are running Call Of Duty, or other graphic intensive games, I would recommend alienware. The M11x It is about $699 which is over your price range, but I would recommend it, it is very light, 4GB DDR3 memory, the only thing suckish about the Ram is that it is 800mhz. 320GB 7,200RPM hard drive. Call of Duty and other graphic intensive games that require a lot of hard drive space will usually come in a disc. The M11x from alienware does not have a optical drive, so no CDs. You can buy one for $49 but a reader only and $80 for an all in one. $400 won't be all enough for a gaming laptop. Gaming laptops will be a little higher than that. Such as the malibal 9 seires which are over $5000 if configured.

Any normal computer under $400 should run games pretty smoothly. The lenovo laptops at lenovo.com have lots of features such as 3D screens and fingerprint security. I found one that is $549 and it is a Lenovo. It is the Thinkpad Edge E520. You get a really good deal on it, it used to be over $1000 now it is only $550. Here are the specs for the Lenovo Laptop:(P.S you can change it on the configuration page this is what you get for $549)
i3-330 processor
4gb of ram
15inch screen
Intel HD graphics 3000
Windows 7 Home premium
320gb 7200 rpm hard drive
Optical Drive
It has no bluetooth but you can add bluetooth for $20 and you can add a fingerprint scanner for $20 too. Another awesome feature above most lenovo laptops is that you can microwave it, pour dust on it, pour water on it, or even microwave it. It will not break. All of those go with your E520. I will actually let you configure it yourself here's the link http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/builder.workflow:Enter?sb=:00000025:00002DDA:&truechoice=1048622656
