Core 2 Duo or Core 2 Quad?

Extreme Tw

Im building a computer and i am wondering which processor i should use. I dont game all that much, but i do use multiple operations at once at times. Should i go to Core 2 Duo and take the extra money to get more Ram?

Answer
Depends on what prices you can get both for. Core 2 Quad would be good if you do a LOT of multi-tasking, but otherwise a Core 2 Duo is fine too.

I personally use a Core 2 Duo (E4400, one of the slower models) and I can have like 20 tabs on Firefox, a 3D map editor, MSN and a virus scanner open without any slowdown (on 2 screens, too).

Can someone answer my questions about the 3-D printer?

Joey

Is there any limits to what it can make? Is it illegal to make certain things out of the 3D printer? If so,tell me. How much money is a 3D printer? If I put a puppy in the scanner, would it be able to replicate the puppy? How does the 3-D printer know if something should move or not?

Answer
Let me answer your questions one at a time:

1. Is there any limits to what it can make?
Right now, yes. In the future, no. The technology today is not advanced enough to make anything. The most common materials used now are plastic, resin, and recently the technology has grown to include metal. Food (lots of chocolate) has recently been printed as have organic materials such as stem cells. However, right now the biggest constraints of 3D printing is size. Soon one can conceivably print things as big as buildings, but for now most printers are relatively small (12in.X12in. though there are some much larger commercial printers). The future of 3D printing will also allow for printing on a molecular level, but for now the technology can only print in the micro scale.

2. Strictly speaking there are no laws against printing anything in 3D. However, laws exist that prohibit the manufacturing of certain goods and these apply to things that a 3D printer can conceivably make. An example of something that is illegal to print in the U.S. is a full gun. One can print parts of a gun legally, but cannot print a whole gun.

3. The cost of a 3D printer varies greatly. One can buy a 3D printer for the home for as little as $499. Commercial 3D printers cost much more and can run upwards of $30,000. With the continual advancement of the technology you can expect to see the prices drop as time goes on.

4. If you scan a puppy in 3D, a printer can print it in 3D. It would most likely be made out of plastic or resin though, not nice soft puppy fur.

5. 3D printers can print moving parts. When an item is programed into the software it maps out exactly where to lay down material. Because 3D printing is additive manufacturing it doesn't print the parts one by one, but instead prints the whole object layer by successive layer. If the programing is correct then moving parts can be included in the printed final product.

3D modelisation of antic statues?

3d scanner price
on High precision 3d scanner laser with cheap price products from China ...

Ella. H

I would like to create a 3D database (files readable in AutoCad or 3DsMax) of an important collection of antic statues of the museum i work in.

But i don't know what tools / equipement i need, and how much it cost. Help me please, i need it.

Answer
3D scanners are available including smaller scale with finer detail that would require moving the pieces to the scanner and larger scale where laser beams scan from semiportable devices that can be taken to the statues.
I would expect the former to cost $500 to $1000 and the latter to range upward from there.
The problem is that costs will vary by your location and the services available locally. An area with a number of firms making 3D scans for parts reproduction, etc. will have better opportunities than one in the boondocks.
This search for "3D scanning Dallas" produces about as many prime choices as I expected
https://www.google.com/search?q=3D+scanning&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a#q=3D+scanning+Dallas&rls=org.mozilla:en-US%3Aofficial
with prices from a miniature USB item under $90 to $9000 hardware and many services - I expect that there will be some distortion of what I saw as Google tries to force items from your area into the search, but Dallas should provide a sample and you can check out both your immediate area and the nearest big city if you are not in one.

how can 3D model is able to replica? using machine?

kryslian88

i was wondering if any of vinyl statues that are replica by using machine technology if is that so then what kind of machine? and what are the price?
use scanning or digital cameras all of the perspectives of the 3D models to make replicas too?

Answer
there are scanners that read a 3 d figure (this is often how small scale figures are reproduced much much larger) Molds are then made (for multiples like the junk from China we buy at Walmart) from metal, and there are machines that squirt resin or liquid plastic into the molds. They then run down a conveyer and are dumped out into big boxes, packed up and shipped out around the world. These machines are very costly, but produce the product at a penny or less each, and then we buy this crap for $10-$150, so if they sell oh, say 10,000 of them they have paid for their machine...

if you want to reproduce your own art work, go to a model maker (in phone book) and ask how much it would be to make molds, and then you can go to a plastics fabricator who does this for other people. Unless you have plenty of capital to start up your own factory.

If you want to just reproduce 100 or so, then yo can learn to make your own molds from a book and make them yourself with liquid resin.

How do you make a laptop faster?

3d scanner price

3d scanner price image
Q. Hi, i dont know anything about laptops and want to buy one, how do you make it run faster?

Thanks.

Answer
1. Run Defrag on the disk
2. Get SpyBot and clean up all spy-ware.
3. Use AVG free virus scanner; un-install McAfee or Norton they are both terribly slow
4. Disable any Windows Services you do not use
5. Disable any Windows start-up items (such as AOL toolbar, Quicktime startup, Yahoo Instant Messenger start-up..) you don't use
6. Upgrade you memory if under 2GB...if you don't have that much as have Windows Vista and don't want to pay the price of new memory, buy a USB stick of size 2GB and let Vista use it as extra memory
7. Run XP instead of Vista (a good bit faster)...or stop running Windows and run Linux instead (it's MUCH faster)
8. Turn off any fancy visual desktop themes (especially under XP)
9. If 3D graphics run slowly, buy a new video card (Nvidia 8600GT/ATI X1300 or better)
---------------------------
Only if you've done all the above and they fail to improve speed enough...should you consider buying a faster computer.
Don't bother overclocking, it will realistically only give a 10% difference in speed on most machines and will often ruin a machine over a couple of years, even if done "smartly".

How can I scan a picture off of a wall?

lovelylady

My bf and I are moving out of our home and he has lived there for years. Well he's had many parties and a BUNCH of friends left signatures on his bathroom wall. Unfortunately a group of his friends died and he refuses to paint over it. Is there a way you can scan or copy the wall so we can have it saved? I would just take a picture but its all over and its on all sides of the walls. I heard there is a handheld scanner you can get to print or save to your computers. Anybody know where? or what they're called?

Answer
Not even sure if they're available anymore--handheld scanners. Googled and found some--"Handheld document scanners"--but they're way expensive. ($500+) At that price, you're better off cutting out that section of the wall and then plastering it (or re-drywall). The cost of repairing a small hole is under $20...tools and materials included.

If you go that route...here's a good tutorial on drywall repair.
