I'm just curious about Adobe Illustrator, Adobe photoshop, or any other programs similar to those which help with 3D art and animation, allowing me to create visual effects. How exactly do they work? I just need to know before I go buy it and find out later that I don't like it.

Answer
definitely do further research, the range you're looking for from art, animation, illustration, images, 3d, and effects, may require more than one program, and suggest finding trial software for each,

for art theres corel painterX
http://www.corel.com/painterix/index.html

for animation theres flash, flat 2d vector,
http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/

for illustration there's adobe illustrator, vector,
http://www.adobe.com/products/illustrator/
or corel draw,
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Product/1150981051301

for images and photos there's adobe photoshop,
http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/
or corel paint shop pro,
http://www.corel.com/servlet/Satellite/us/en/Product/1155872554948

for 3d images and or animation,
theres maya
http://www.alias.com/glb/eng/support/maya.jsp
also maxon,
http://www.maxon.net/pages/dyn_files/dyn_htx/htx/welcome_e.html
and softimage xis,
http://www.softimage.com/
so it can get very complicated not knowing which direction you're opting to go,

other freeware at this time, note that this is pc mostly and some mac-able,
Art rage,

Beneton Movie Gif,

GIMP image editor

Inkscape. illustrator
http://www.inkscape.org/
Anim8or Free 3D Animation Software

..
also suggest a wacom tablet or other,

and scanner, printer,camera, et cetera,
..

Photoshop or Ilustrator to tweak scanned drawings for use in After Effects?

Marcus

I want to utilize the "2 1/2D" feature of AE (2D layers in a 3D environment) but rather than creating the images w adobe, I want to draw them myself and scan each one, then tweak individually before importing them to AE for use. Won't be working with photos, and am obviously an Adobe novice. Would I do better w PS or ILL? Thanks!

Answer
Photoshop is the best for what your needs are.

You just need to hook your printer/scanner up to the USB port of your computer and scan away.

Then all you have to do is open up Photoshop. Press File --> Open and find your scanned photo.
I can't give you a whole tutorial on how to tweak it up though so try to find some tutorials on YouTube, there's plenty out there.

i wanna know where could i buy a automatic head statue maker that can build statues with photos that it takes
i seen this device in public places before
but i wanna know more

Answer
not quite sure what you are talking about. If you are talking about a 3D laser scanner and a 3D printer then look either up. Or it's a CNC milling machine. Z-corp is a well known company for 3D printers.
Neither 3d laser scanner not 3D printer are yet household items. So the price is correspondingly. I'd be able to pay the rent for more than a year for what it could set you back.
If you are talking about something affordable for any average person, please post, I'd be interested as well.
